Last weekend I helped Scott (NCScroller) unload some of the lumber he scored from Jeff, and noticed a bunch of stuff in the garage shop, including a dog crate. He asked me if I was interested, I said no. Of course, I _was_ interested, I just didn't know it yet. Fortunately, he still had it when I asked about it this afternoon.

But.

What does he ask for this crate? A tidy sum of money? A power tool? A promise not to write nonsense on North Carolina Woodworker for a month? Noooooo. He asks for a piece of wood that's 3/4 x 3/4 x 5.

He is trying to lure me into making a PEN BLANK! How sneaky sneaky!

So, I gave him a piece of wood that was 3/4 x 5. Five FEET that is. He can cut it to 3/4 width and 5 inches length himself. All I know is that it was a perfectly good board for furniture making when I left it. Should he decide to turn perfectly square wood into something round, well, I'm not responsible.

Scott - thanks a million for the crate! It will be put to good use. Even though there was some wood involved, this really was just about being good neighbors. Another sign how much more North Carolina Woodworker is than just a woodworking forum. And thanks for the magazine too! Next time I misbehave and LOML locks me in the crate, I'll have something to read.

You really gotta watch it around the Dark Side Bas - at the picnic Earl came up to me and showed me a really cool segmented bowl - then after the lumber run Dozer and Fred showed me some really cool turned bowls also - then Dozer very nonchalantly say "hey jeff you want to turn something on Fred's lathe" Fred is nodding his head up and down - two against one - I just smiled and said nope.

Bas, sounds like you are slowly being lured in. Before you know it everything in your shop will be round.

Not only did Bas try the pen out but he even picked up a few turning tools. The roughing gouge fit his hand like a glove.

Bas SkyWalker your time is short.

Hey Bas, you need another dog crate??? I have several, all I would ask for them is that you come over and let me show you a spin or two on the lathe. I've been known to hook a few into the DarkSide, all it takes is a little spin.
You want some candy

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Bas -what Scott didn't tell you is that holding any turning tool comfortably is is serious step toward the dark side!!!!!!!!!!!! Think of it this way - you will need much smaller pieces of wood for a little while

Ok time to hit below the belt

BAS the tools on the darkside are limitless, you can buy a new tool every day and still not get them all

Now now Earl, no need to get ugly. You really think I can be seduced by the lure of limitless tools? Ha. No chance.

Hmmm.

Limitless you said? Every day? EVERY DAY?!?!

Haven't ya;ll realized that the possibility of needing more tools may be the driving force in getting Bas firmly settled into the dark side? The guy could use serious intervention - but is highly unlikely to find it in this group! lol
