Name: Keye City: Lancaster State: SC County: Lancaster Join Date: Mar 2007 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 5.64 over 180 days | Has not happened yet, but it could. My wife was the victim of a very clever phishing scam this morning. She works for Wachovia and received an email with an originating email address that looked as if was an internal email, wachovia.com/something/something. It concerned a Wachovia account. She does not have an account with Wachovia. She called the number in the email and ended up giving out her SS#. As soon as she did alarm bells went off in her head. She hung up and called someone in security and fraud. This is when she found out she had been a victim of phishing.
We have notified all 3 of the national credit bureaus and had our credit reports flagged. We cancelled all the credit cards in her name. Called my credit union and they flagged out accounts. They did not see any reason to cancel our credit card with them.
Went to an identity theft info site and this appears all we can do until we are actually victims.
One thing that worries me is the credit bureau flag only lasts 90 days. What do you do? Wait 91 days and flag them again?
Anyone have any advise? Hopefully not learned the hard way. |

Regrettably,my wife had all of our personal info in a fire safe box.It included SS cards, old ID's,passports, several Eropean ID's(we lived there for a while),all our birth certificates, car titles, motorcycle titles and some keys, books worth of checks, bond certificates and a good amount of European cash we were saving, since they have converted to the Euro.
Anyway,we had a welcome wagon smash the window in my wife's car and steal it on our first night in NC.It was buried in the back. They climbed in and over 2 rows of seats to burrow in for valuables. We were staying in a hotel in Chapel Hill and closing on our house in the morning.
It was a fine welcome I must say.
We couldn't close on our house the next day because everything was gone.We almost lost the deal.
It has been a long standing personal problem of mine since I warned her about packing it this way and she better take care of it all.And wouldn't you know it's stolen. But there was a lot to deal with, with just moving.
I keep telling myself they probably chucked it all because they were looking for cash not setting up fake ID's.
But it's a lot of stuff to have out there and we monitor everything closely now.
Good luck |

Jeff, I read about the minor identity theft and was amazed. This is something I would never think about. This is also one of the reasons I am now using one of the identity theft protection companies. I would rather spend my time in the shop rather than trying to become an expert in this. |

Its useless to argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level then beat you with their experiance.
