I think the title says it all. Welcome to Dave's shop paint disaster #2 I was cleaning up my shop a bit in anticipation of a visitor tomorrow, and while carrying out a load of scrap wood to go to the burn pile I noticed something.

This is under a section of work counter where I stored our household paint. My wife likes to save money by buying the mis-tinted paint at the BORG and creating her own custom colors. That usually results in a 5 gallon bucket of the final color. I have to save that paint because there is no way ever duplicate the color again. So I had about a 1/2 dozen 5 gal buckets and many 1 gal cans stored under there, stacked up nicely. The bucket on the bottom containing a pink paint that we used somewhere decided to give up it's ghost. I don't know what happen, but the paint was no longer contained in the bucket.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions as to how to clean up this mess???????

It's mighty thick and goopy. Any attempt to wipe it up will result in just smearing it into the concrete. I don't really care about the shop floor, it has already developed a nice patina of various finishing products, glue, blood and of course the famous peach paint stain. I am thinking of letting it dry and trying to peal it up, but that might take a while, and now I have all these paint cans strewn about my shop, taking up valuable real-estate. :cuss ing:

I would scrape up as much as possible with a flat wall scraper/putty knife. Then let it dry and forget about it.

After you scrape up most of it then you can pour water on it and dilute it enough to wipe up most of the remainder.

After it dries it ain't coming up without a jackhammer.

I had the same problem on my Garage floor I got up as much as I could went to the borg & picked up some gel paint remover 1 hr later the concrete where the paint spilled was cleaner than the rest of the floor! Only set me back a 10 spot!

Don't know if this will work, but they sell a pellet type of product at the borg that dries up paint. Maybe you could sprinkle some of that on it, and then scrape it up.

It had to be peach... didn't it Dave?

Dave,

I agree with Mike. At my work, we use this big scraper for taking up linoleum floors. I'm not a hundred percent sure where to buy them, but it will probably work well for getting paint off of concrete. It has probably a 10" blade (replaceable) and a long handle that allows you to use it standing up. Sorry about the mess.

HTH

FIRST, put on your PEACH-COLORED boots so you don't mess up another pair!

Second, If it's water-based, do what Mike said. Dilute with water repeatedly and wipe up until you're satisfied. If it's oil-based, use a thinner to dilute repeatedly and wipe up until you're satisfied.

THIRD and MOST IMPORTANT....STAY AWAY FROM PAINT!!!!!

NO PAINT ZONE!

This time it's PINK, a slight variation of PEACH, and that's gonna mess up my whole floor color scheme. Everybody knows that you don't mix your pinks

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Scraping it up with a 6" plastic drywall knife did the trick. And I found out that saw-dust makes a great paint absorber. It helped me to get up most of the last of it.

There is a silver lining to this cloud. I cleaned out that corner, tossed out a lot of old paint, and finally found the bucket of paint that I used in our kitchen. I needed it for some touch up work before I install some new trim today

It means I can't type
There actually could be several other definitions, but those aren't appropriate for a family forum

Dave, I feel your pain! I'm also laughing my behind off reading this thread, sorry.... The moral of the story? NEVER clean up your shop in anticipation of visitors.

I wonder if paint tossing would make for a good picnic game. Or something for a Klingspor demo? Nobody does paint like you do Dave At least you found the color you needed for the kitchen!

You could paint the rest of the floor the same color.
I hear that pink calms the nerves.
