Exclamation

Most of you probably don't know it, but I have the itch to get a wide belt sander. I have harked on it quite heavily with my family to the point that my 2 year old is saying "wide belt sander".

I finally got the LOML to ask how much it was going to cost last week and the words out of her mouth were "are you crazy, absolutely not, no way, not happening". Still, I have been persistent.

Now, miraculously, she says, buy it. I have asked what changed, what gives, and I get no response. Maybe go ahead and sell the Performax?

I am thinking just go out and buy one, but she does have me a bit nervous.....

Soooooo..... Do I go buy one, wait a bit, figure it out, or go buy it?
Hmmmm.....................

If you wait til you figure a out a woman you may die waiting.

On the other hand, no woman changes her mind without a motive.

Did it sound like "Buy it, and that will be the last straw" ?

Or did it sound like "You know what you are doing and I made a big mistake trying to tell you what to do" ?

(Yeah, right! Like any woman would think that.)

To give better perspective, it's like go ahead and buy it, I don't care, I don't see an issue with it. But I detect the "tone" that you get yours and I will get mine, but that is ok as well. She wants countertops and we have already been looking at those so......

I might be able to help you with the countertops if you are looking at granite.

Now, about that Performax....

My answer would depend on what model Performax, what's included, and how much you'd be asking for it And does it run on 110 or 220?

Anyhow, you're in trouble.
- If you buy it and she just told you to go buy it because she was tired of you nagging, well, expect some fallout in the future. At a minimum, there will be a few "I'm not angry, just hurt" moments. Also be prepared for sudden Diamond Ring Appearances.
- If you don't buy it even though she's really OK with it, she'll be wondering why after all that nagging you're not rushing out to get it. Next time you ask for something, she'll figure it can't be all that important, and say no
- If you don't buy it and she wasn't OK with it, but just wanted to shut you up, you've now set a dangerous precedent.

The solution is to be male, and forget about any subliminal messages you may have detected. She said yes. You're a guy. Yes is yes. No is no. Subtle hints don't work. Strong hints don't work. Really obvious hints don't work. But to be on the safe side, when the sander arrives, present her with two dozen roses, an all-day pass to the day spa, concert/ theater/ rodeo tickets (whatever her taste) and champagne breakfast.

After seeing her completely happy and not at all concerned about the insane amount of money you spent on a sander, you go to the shop, turn on the new toy tool, listen to it purr, sand a couple of pieces, turn it off, and remember that guy on North Carolina Woodworker who gave you such fabulous advice! Then load up the truck with that Performax man-that-machine-looks-like-a-toy-now and wheel it over to Cary. PM me if you forgot the address.

Travis,
I'm pretty sure the Timesaver Speed Sander that use to sit around the corner from your 16" jointer is still for sale. You might want to give John a call. He might give you an even better deal now that some time has past.
Also there are several up for auction here;
http://www.irsauctions.com/index_sea...lts.asp?ind=50

I just love being an enabler to those stricken with WGD.

Trav take comfort in the fact that if SWMBO kills you, your NCwoodworker friends will look after your tools.

Rob
