You may have read or heard about NC's new cell phone law taking effect July 1, which prohibits talking while driving, unless you are using a hands free device...

Well, it's a hoax.

Still, handling a phone or anything else while driving is a distraction...

I wish it wasn't a hoax, most people that don't see me when I'm on my bike, are on a cell phone also.

When I'm doing 80 and get passed on Rt 1 or the beltline, I'm amazed.
When I'm doing 80 and get passed by someone who is also on a cell phone, I get furious!
Talking on a cell phone while driving is DWAI, period.
I have no illusions, however, that I will ever be stopped. Heck, they don't even stop cars that have "plastic distorters" obscuring the license plate!

Yep its a hoax-
but do we have to tell people????
In November while working at a mva(car wreck) I was directing traffic because PD was chasing a subject from the wreck. One of my firefighters was putting absorbant on a spill, the other 2 were tending to the injured occupant of the other vehicle.
A female driver on a bright sunny clear fall day, in a straight-a-way did not see a police cruiser, a wrecked car, a fire engine, another police cruiser, a wrecked truck - or me. At the last possible second she swerved enough to hit the wrecked truck and then me. Anyone want to guess her "problem"?
You got it. Pre-occupied in a cell-phone conversation.
So while it's a hoax ( it IS law for teen-aged drivers) I'm not going to spoil the FUN on this one
