Name: Jon Todd City: Pfafftown State: NC County: Forsyth Join Date: Feb 2007 Age: 38 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 6.88 over 180 days | I plugged my lawn 3 weeks ago and my grass was coming up really good. I own my own business and I invest in really good equipment. My neighbor is a part time lawn care guy and full time fireman. He plugged my other neighbor with a pull behind plugger and took the liberty of turning around in my yard and it really pulled up alot of the new grass and made a mess.
Would you ask him to pay for the seed to fix it or let it go. To replug mine and reseed it again will cost me about 80 dollars and probably 3 hours.
What would you do?

If there were smoke roiling from your windows, would you like for him to think...
"Jerk. Serves him right. Let it burn."
---or---
"Holy smokes. My neighbor's house is on fire.... DORIS.... CALL 911"
My local weekly newspaper just reported a nearby town considering outlawing sprinklers. I'm not going to say what I think about that, but it may be that lawns ain't gonna be what they used to be. Heck, it hasn't rained for what, six months? (Jim wrote, as the drizzle peppered his roof and he reflected on the last few days when rain frequently interrupted his outdoor exercise).

Neighbors were good folk whom I didn't see all to often but I wanted to keep good relations with them. In the end I did speak with them and they agreed to fix the problem. Load off my mind. But here's the point...my problem occurred in the Fall (reseeding) and by Spring things looked fairly good even though at first they looked pretty bad. So, although I don't know your exact situation, you might want to take a wait and see position, things might just work out better than you think. Nature has a way of healing things. Depends on how bad you got ripped and how you feel about talking to the neighbors about it. Timing can be important factor in these things. Good luck with whatever course of action you settle on. |

Molehills become mountains very fast over small stuff. Let it be. Chances are the new grass you have coming up will not survive the summer. Wait until the fall and replant it then when it will have a better chance. |

My sentiments exactly. I get along with all of my neighbors, 5 families having a cookout tomorrow night and 1 Friday each month all summer. $80 isn't worth having hurt feelings ruin relations with a neighbor. But only you know your situation.

I am more just tired of this guy tearing up my property. I came home one day and saw a very large loaded dump truck backing up my drivewaay to get into his backyard. well that dumptruck cracked my driveway up in about 5 places.
There are numerous things that he has done that have cost me time and money so it just gets old having to deal with it.

I don't know all of the details, but I work hard for my money. If my neighbor cracked my driveway or ruined a decent portion of my yard, I would let them know how I felt about it. If these things have been a normal occurance, then the odds are that they will continue if you don't say something about it. I would probably start by being polite. If it were me, I would walk over there when I knew he was in the house at a decent hour with the rest of his family. I would politely bring up a few of the more important things that have been bothering you. Keep in mind, be polite about it. Speak like you were speaking to your boss. Yet have a look of dead seriousness in your eyes. That will let him know that you are PO'd about it, but are trying to bring it up in a polite way. If it happens again, well, that's up to you.
Trent
PS: I just got home from working a 13 hour LONG day, so my opinion is probably pretty biased toward the "I'm not putting up with any bandsaw" side of it. Do what you feel is right.

But only you know your situation and your neighbors. There's an old say "fences make good neighbors", I'd do what Mike said, if it's possible. Even a very low fence, just as a demarcation line.

This lawn is not the first thing the neighbor hosed up in your yard. Lawn may grow back, but a cracked driveway don't heal itself. I would have asked you about the dump truck using your drive before it arrived. I certainly would have apologized for any damage, and offered to have it fixed.
But I would approach him calmly, and mention both incidents, and see how it goes. At least it would let him know you are not going to let your place suffer for him to get some work done.

The guy shouldn't have backed a dump truck in your driveway and through your yard to get it his without permission. I would still approach it with caution, but at this point i think I would put up the fence, and fix the yard myself. I would be willing to bet your neighbor is going to see nothing wrong with what he has done.
