Items ring up to $6.71. Ask immediately "Will you take $5.23?" (or some other lesser amount not far off the total) AND SHUT UP...then watch as what you said catches up to their brain! .gif)

At that point, he/she has already had to do more than a dime's worth of extra work. It sure ain't worth the extra work on my part, so walking out the door is easy. Serves 'em right. Steve

Just before walking away I would open the lid and spit in the cup, saying, "And you can have the sip I took, too!" |

The young lady at the counter didn't put up the sale sign and and she wasn't the one that was suppose to take it down, but she is the one that will get fired if she accepts anything other than what the computer says the price should be. If you got a problem ask for the manager, don't make the girl's lousy job even worst. A cashier has no say in this type of thing so why pick on her.

Most people misdirect their anger, thereby getting poor or no results. Be a man and step up to the manager and let him know what you think. These little games do nothing to help and only make you look like a fool.
Don't leave the merchandise on the counter, hand it to the manager and tell him what he can do with it. |

Yesterday, I went into Lowes Foods to get some ground turkey to make hot dog chili. They had been running bulk sausage for $1.78 a pound through yesterday. (Today it is $1.68 a pound.) Due to excess inventory, meat market manager had dropped it to $0.99 a pound. Bought several packages. When I got home , I realized that one had rung up at regular price - $2.78 a pound. Today, took label and receipt back. Lowes policy is to give you first item free that rings up wrong. I just wanted the difference. A very polite CS lady explained their policy to me. Then she asked how is the sausage, and I answered that it is good. Said she would be getting off in an hour, and would check to see if there was any of the $0.99 sausage left. I went to meat case, and found only one package left. I took it to CS desk, and purchased it. The tag said it was $1.20, which would have been right. Cash register/ computer rang it up at half price- $0.60. It would fresh out tomorrow. After paying for it, I handed it to nice CS lady and said "I don't know when you birthday is, but happy birthday." |

Name: Bruce City: Apex State: NC County: Wake Join Date: Nov 2005 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 6.26 over 180 days | Prior to going to Lowes Foods, I was in the other Lowes. I needed an item from the plumbing dept. Plumbing guy (newly outsourced from IBM) told customer that what he wanted wasn't available. I said "Excuse me, but follow me." We walked to another aisle and I helped customer locate exactly what he was looking for. Plumbing guy was amazed. Just then a customer came up and wanted an aerator for kitchen sink. I took him down the aisle to where they are located. Original customer took down my name and phone # for future jobs. Found out that he is retired, but has a machine shop. He makes sampling nozzles for use in smoke stacks. When he told me where he lives, I told him that one of my friends was his neighbor. Got an invite to come over and check out his shop. I asked if it would be OK to bring my neighbor, who is a retired machinist. He said sure. When I leave this world, I want it to be a better place because I was here, rather than because I'm no longer here. I used to work for a guy who had a sign in his office- "Everyone who comes into my office brings a smile to my face. Some by coming, and others by leaving." Bruce |

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

If you are upset about something, don't attack just whoever is handy; complain to a decision maker. Cashiers do not generally set corporate policy. Even when speaking to the proper person, polite justification of your position will generally get better results than berating someone or trying to mess with their head.
An aside on the gift certificate thing - the time to call the manager over was when you purchased the gift certificate; it is not merchandise and non taxable. Very weird accounting goes on with regard to the timing of the revenue recognition. The tax rate may be different at the time and/or location the certificate is cashed in. |

Decided after about 2 months that I really do not have time to work. Never worked retail before and this really changed how I look at the people that do work in retail. For those that have never worked retail think about this. If you want 3 days off you have to work 10 straight days at HD.
We should never lump all clerks or all engineers into the same bucket.
As for being overpaid, my wife sees the billing rates for thousands of employees and I can say with complete confidence that ALL computer geeks are overpaid . |

Waiters, waitresses, and cashiers have the worst of the worst, they have to deal with people that are angry over things that are not in their control. I have worked both jobs, therefore I tip well and always say thank you and have a nice day to them (unless they are nasty to me). A little smile goes a long and doesn't cost very much.
Think about having your worst day at work, and having nasty people come up to you, constantly, while you are in the middle of a crisis, and that's what they have a fair amount of the time.
Treat people as you would like to be treated, because you never know what they're are going through until you walk a mile in there shoes.
