So far I'm not opposed to them, the ones I've seen were relevant to North Carolina, so it's not like were seeing ads for things that no one here would ever be interested in. I'll likely look at them too.

The ads are surprisingly unobtrusive. A very small price to pay for visiting a "free" site.

If you have noticed, the new posts page only shows public service ads. What this means is that Google can't find ads that match the content and that is because it is a search page that can't really be crawled. So that space will be a perfect place to place someone else's ad

No problem here - as long as we don't start getting pop-up's.

At first I did not like them but they don't slap you in the face and even blend in quietly, so if they offset some cost I'm fine with it. I agree with Sapwood that its a small price to pay for a free site.

How does this work? Is google's software setup to detect the type of content on the page or site and gear the adds to that content?

One concern though. I remember at SMC when they first started adds there was a Amazon add on the site for a book or movie on a pornstar, Marilyn Chambers I believe it was. Could that happen here?

Its useless to argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level then beat you with their experiance.

The google adsense program looks at the content of the page(s) and gears the ads towards that. So far it appears that they are doing a great job. Since the pages the ads are currently showing pages that don't have static content, the 2 things it seems to be getting is North Carolina and woodworking. I suspect, if I put the ad on a page with a more specific topic, the ads would be even more specific. Google seems to do a very job.

Also, I have a setting that does not allow adult oriented ads.

As far as blending in, a lot of that is under my control. I've colors, etc. that I hoped would not shove the ads in your face.

The ads have my vote for being a good thing . Another site I frequent almost daily (non-woodworking) has become dang near unusable due to slow loading from all the animated display ads With Papa Smurf controlling things I cannot see that happening here.

Steve I should have known you had everything under control.

You did a great job of blending the adds into the background yet making them noticeable

On the "new posts" page there are always google ads with requests for donations to some disaster or other, not sure I want to see those every time I come here, are these really neccessary?

Those are public service ads. That's what google does whn it can't find relevance. I will be changing it soon.

Is it me, my computer or the ads? But sometimes the shift click pops up a new window, sometimes it opens a new tab, and yet other times it redirects the current browser window. I'm using Firefox.

I think the ads fit into the website perfectly! Great work Steve!
