What you saw last night and this morning was just a trial. Since we have never carried any ads before, the vBulletin hooks, etc for displaying them have never been used. So, I was and will be playing around with placement, etc.

But, please note that the Google ads will be showing on more pages than they do now. Also know, that any Money Making scheme that does not actually bring in sufficient income. Will be dropped. But, of course, they have to be given a reasonable time period to really assess their value.

We have the ability to choice who actually sees these ads or even which groups can see how many ads. So we will be playing with some variations of that too.

Talking

If they are annoying to you try using the Firefox browser with the AdBlock Plus add-in. It will kill many ads and works seamlessly.

Just a thought, I know revinue from these ad's is probably closely linked to the number of hits the site gets from the ads on North Carolina Woodworker. Can you change the settings in the ad so that it opens a new window (or tab)? I'm more apt to click on a link if it doesn't steer me away from North Carolina Woodworker.

Other than that, I don't think the ads look bad, considering what I've seen on other sites these look pretty good.

If you do a shift-click, it will open in a new window.

Not only is that an option, but one I'm considering.

Question for Steve:
If the ads get clicked on more, does the site get more income from them?

I am not allowed to say anything that would encourage clicking on the ads for increased revenue purposes

I'd like to view the ads sometime, so I'd be in favor of the option for members to close the block or open it at will like the other areas of the home page. I think they are discreet and don't take up a lot of space as they are. The scroll arrow is a nice feature too as opposed to a live scroll. I find those distracting.

The Biltmore Package Link doesn't' work (at least for me). The ones prior to that do so I don't think it's my internet connection.

Do any broken links reported to the help desk or where?

I do not find the ads intrusive. If North Carolina Woodworker gets a few oence to defray Steve's costs, I got no problem. But if ya start offering cheap vacations or toner refills.....
