I find it funny that North Carolina Woodworker is "The Friendliest Woodworking Site on the Internet" but our favorite thing to tell one another is "YOU SUCK! "

I can only imagine what on-lookers are thinking ... they must be confused! Then again, it shouldn't take long to figure it out ...

Hey it's in the Lexicon in case someone doesn't understand -
STU

S2S - surfaced on two sides
S4S - surfaced on four sides
S.C.M.S. - sliding compound miter saw
Scribner Scale - unit of log yield, in board feet
Select - The grade below FAS. Same quality only the board is under 6" wide and less that 72 cutting units.
SF - Shop Fox machinery
SMC - Saw Mill Creek
Spam - bulk unsolicited (usually commercial) email
SPF - Spruce, Pine or Fir
SS - (1) scroll saw; (2) ShopSmith; (3) stainless steel
Story stick - a length of wood, usually a scrap, used for measuring and layout of dimensions in cabinetry
SU - SketchUp
Suck - A term used to congratulate purchaser of a new tool -- translates to "I'm jealous!"
SWIUI- She Who Is Usually ignored
SWMBO - she who must be obeyed (see LOML)
SYP - southern yellow pine
T&G - tongue & groove
TAS - Tilting arbor saw
TIA - thanks in advance
TPI - teeth per inch; measured gullet-to-gullet (usually PPI - 1)
T.S.- table saw
TWA - Triangle Woodworkers Association (regional association that meets in Raleigh)
UMHW - ultra high molecular weight polyethylene

But if you have a problem with it, you could quit buying so many nice tools...your tool purchase contribute significantly to the frequency of the sayings appearance

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Heard from a client..."If I had your tools and experience...I could do it myself"

Dave - Select is actually a grade below F1F and a grade above #1 common with a minimum board size of 4" wide by 6' long / 24 cutting units.

Both FAS and F1F are a minimum board size of 6" wide by 8' long / 48 cutting units.

I think we may have confused F1F and Select Grades. Grades from best to worst are:
FAS
F1F
Select
#1 Common
#2 A
#2 B
#3 A
#3 B

I must confess that I was the creator of this Suck-U-lent definition in the Lexicon. I just thought it appropriate to add one, because I suspected some folks would not understand our frequent use of this term!
