Exclamation Flooding

I just wanted to post a thread and make sure that our members are ok and that if you need anything you know that this group is here to help. In Salisbury we got about 12 inches of rain according to the Rowan county airport. I think that if any of our members are in need of help the rest of us would be glad to pitch in. If you have been affected and we can help just let us know, I am sure that we stand ready to help our brothers and sisters in woodworking. Please let us know if you need us. Also let us know that you are ok!

All OK here in southside VA, you can almost hear the tobacco and soybean plants breathing a sigh of relief

Re: Flooding

Personally I love the rain but I also know how much havoc too much at once can reek. I lived in Roanoke Va. in the flood of 1985 and have seen first hand the destruction too much running water can do. Glad everything is ok with you Jeff...

Re: Flooding

Us here on the coast haven't had the drought problems of the western part of the state, although we've been dryer than normal. Todays rain put us over the average for the first time this year.

Re: Flooding

The parking lot in front of the store in Durham where I was (in meetings all day) flooded this morning. My car was sitting in what I thought had been one of the reasonably dry spots, when I waded out to it, the water was lapping at the sides of the car!!!! (and I had parked it there only 5-10 minutes earlier)

Re: Flooding

I was afraid to see a thread like this. I am glad that so far no one has had any problems. I would hate to see any pics like this -

Personally I rushed home this afternoon expecting to find water in my shop. I have made accommodations for it after the first time it happened, but it makes a tremendous mess nonetheless.
Luckily I can report that I am bone dry.
But all this rain did reek havoc on several of my landscape projects at work

At least we ain't in FL, Cuba or Jamaica

Re: Flooding

Wow Dave, that picture made me cringe. Skeeter and I were talking about that yesterday. Where I'm located, if a decent sized (Category 2 or higher) storm came through here, there would be about 5 feet of water in my shop. I'd have to move it all either up two flights of steps or to someone else's house on higher ground. Either way, it would be a nightmare. I can only pray that they stay offshore. Very sorry to hear about your work projects Dave.

Re: Flooding

We're OK in Concord. (Actually... I'm in New Orleans working but Mary Ann says it's ok) Thank goodness we got a new roof on our house and no leaks. Our neighbor's rain gauge says 5" since yesterday morning.

I'll be spending this weekend w/my daughter ~2hrs NW of here. Wish us luck w/Gustav.

Re: Flooding

Well we finally are on the plus side of the rain deficit. No major problems in my area and Lake Norman is at full pond. This storm also hit my parents down in South Florida and they had 19 inches of rain. The fire dept. came by in a air boat and tryed to get my 80 year old mother to take a ride. That was not gonna happen. My dad was more than willing,46 years in the fire dept. will get you ready for anything.Well I hope everybody else fared as well.

Re: Flooding

NOT SO LUCKY!!!
I know I made a post about wanting to clean my shop out... but this wasn't what I had in mind. I didn't think to snap photos until after I had a bunch of water pushed out. I'm not sure the pics do it justice. I had about 2-3" of water in my shop and basement when I got home this morning after working a 14 hour shift dealing with flooded roads in Huntersville. I AM READY FOR BED! I don't think I have any damage except to my stomach from acid reflux. I probably lost some lumber though. I guess it could have been worse.

At least I spared y'all from the video of me pushing water around in my underwear!

Re: Flooding

Brian,

I'm so sorry to hear about that. You're right, sometimes the stress of dealing with it is worse than the actual work involved. I'm glad you only had minimal losses though.
