A few of our members are practioners of the medical arts in addition to woodworking. My daughter is having surgery this afternoon on a broken hand by a doctor formerly associated with Duke who also has "other interests". This morning there was an article about him in the local CT paper. http://www.theday.com/re.aspx?re=d47...b-af819d5438e3 My daughter and her husband lead a very active lifestyle, kayaking, skiing, scuba diving, motorcycling, wilderness hiking etc. On their honeymoon last year they traipsed all over Europe including hiking in the Alps. Last week she tripped walking up the stairs to their second story apartment and broke her hand

My daughter called about 3:30, the surgery went well, 4 to 6 weeks recovery and she can go back to the exciting stuff she and her husband enjoy so much. She did say that the doctor appeared to have changed from farm overalls and muck boots prior to the surgery In reality he is a VERY good hand surgeon I just found his other pursuit a little strange

Best wishes for your daughter and prayers as well.

One of the best surgeons I've ever known was a "country boy" from the Virginia hills over near Big Stone Gap. He LOVED to farm. Used to see him at every farm auction. He cut hay and sold it, had 7 kids, and as I said, was a real pro!

He had an opportunity to got back to his home area and teach in the med school and practice, so they moved. I still miss him.

Good news on your daughter's recovery. I bet the Surgeon is happy he has a nice income/retirement fund to fall back on. Hobby farming ain't cheap, unless you're in it for high production it doesn't pay the bills. My chicken still owe me at least 100 dozen eggs to pay off their housing But there is nothing like a farm fresh egg, veggie, or steak where you know exactly what has gone into it...and hopefully you haven't named it

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Glad to hear your daughter is on the road to recovery, Glenn. Tell her to do as the Doc says and don't rush back into those strenuous activities.
