So I was playing my electric bass guitar, a thunder storm rolled through - well you guessed it... got me a nice little shock. I have to admit felt a little like Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies during that episode when Jethro wanted to be a rock star so he took the electrical cord out of a lamp and hooked it up to the strings of an acoustic guitar, got dressed up in a long haired wig and fancy duds called everyone into the parlor and said "OK Uncle Jed plug me in" then get started jumping up and down - singing "cut the juice, turn me loose".

Ah it's not a real good idea to pass the time during a thunder storm by playing your guitar now is it?

Thanks

Yeah it was just a little tingle - nothing too bad but sure did shock me In theory this should never happen but I think I found the source the the slight buzzing sound when my thumb rests on the metal pickup cover - me things I have a bad ground now... Time to tear it down and investigate a little.

Jeff you play Bass? I do too! I have a five string Fender - not that good at it but I do play for our church - what kind do you have? Our lead guitar got one of those shocks also during a storm - if you want to pass the time like that again stand on a rubber mat

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

I used to be big into playing the bass and had a Ric 4003 but now I still have my Peavey foundation, it's about 12 years old and has seen better days that's for sure. 5 strings? What do you do with the 5th string?

Thanks

I always worry when I see the two words "electrical" and "experiment" in the same sentence. Glad it wasn't more than a tingle. Maybe it saved you some future tragedy.

I saw the title to this post and that Star Wars quote immediately came to mind..."I got a bad feeling about this". Glad it was just a tingle from the guitar. I was half-expecting a crosswired phase converter hooked up to a 440V piece of equipment that overloaded the generator.

Bass guitar - cool! I tried playing it for a couple of years, discovered I have absolutely no sense of rhythm. Only thing I could play was the Ramones, that was easy.

No, I'm saying the Ramones play so fast there's no possibility of getting out of rhythm! Play at 120mph and don't stop until your muscles give out

At one time I was real heavy into YES, Rush and the Who. Then I took Jazz lessons for about 2 years up in Chicago, played a couple of clubs as a trio and got all screwed up. Now I just have my Peavey foundation and Peavey TKO amp to goof around with at home.

At one time I had some real nice gear with a Rik 403 and a Marshall dual bottom full stack that stood taller than I am and would rattle the pictures off the walls without much try.

I don't play anymore with bands or anything like that I just like to play for enjoyment so I throw in a CD and try and play along. The Jazz lessons helped train my ear so with the right amount of time, I can usually pick out what being played by others on a CD.

Thanks

Bas, you could always play like Joe Strummer (The Clash) on the bass. I guess you can strum a bass...

Jeff, the fifth string is a Low B - I don't play it alot but there is a couple of songs where I hit it - I hit the Low D on the same string and sometimes I hit the Low G - I like playing it but I like the four string better

Given the title, "Electrical experiment", and the author (Jeff), my first thought was "Frankenstein".
