I have been living here in VA for about 10 months now which means I have experienced my first summer, fall and winter. I expected the summer to be hot (correct), fall to be warmer than I was used to in NJ (correct again), I expected the winter to be much milder (the year before I moved we had 30" of snow in a four day period ) once again I guessed correctly and experienced a mild winter here in Dixie . This brings us to spring, there was a spate of warm weather recently which prompted me to put shop completion on hold and reseed the lawn (again) and start to build a box for a raised garden to overcome the lovely red VA clay which is dang near impossible to cultivate without mega horsepower. Lawn reseeded (good), garden box built (good), several days of rain (also good), no sun for nearly a week now (not good ) . My request is this..........if anyone knows the whereabouts of the large orange hot ball that used to appear every morning in the east and disappear in the west every afternoon please let me know I would like to get the anti- deer fence erected around the garden, my seedlings in, and my newly planted rose bushes and grass seed are in dire need of some of the magical rays from afore mentioned orange ball Thank you in advance for any possible sightings you can forward to me

I moved down to the Raleigh area from NJ back in 91. Spring always confuses just a bit. I think we have couple of false starts every year... sort of like "previews of coming attractions". While we do get faked out from time to time (i.e., every spring) just keep thinking about how nice it is to be in the south.

Yep, this is my second full spring here and now that I've more or less adjusted, I've been tempted to whinge about the weather this spring. The fact that we just had a drought that almost killed my whole yard (and did kill a few plants ) keeps me in check. That, and the fact that no matter how lousy it seems right now, if I was still in MA it would be at least 10 degrees cooler most of the time.
Hey, the trees are almost out, the grass is green and I've got a better chance of actually getting the new grass to survive this year.
Life is good.

That being said, I'm waiting for the nice hot weather to return.

Steve

I think the pollen is pretty much done too! Now when I walk out to my car it isn't yellow anymore! Plus with the drought nearly over, I guess I can wash my car again. Ughhh.... that's going to be a LONG day.

Usually have several practice springs before the real thing gets here, Same with pollen- there's more on the way.

Be careful what you wish for, somebody said they had enough rain sometime last spring and we're just now getting caught up.

Glenn theres been a saying here for as long as i can remember thats if you dont like the weather stick around a few minutes it will change. I even remember a February in 93 or 94 it was 80 degrees on a Wenesday i was working a job in Fayetteville, the next day it kept getting colder I left Jacksonville going home drove about 10 miles this way when the rain turned into sleet
Except for last summer's exteended heat and drought you've seen a typical year. We get plenty of 90 degree days in the summer but we dont normally see a summer with weeks on top of weeks with temps in the mid to upper 90's.

Like Bryan said, if you don't like the weather in these parts wait a day or two it will change...except for the summer heat. It seems to never change for at least 3 months. I am happy to see the rain and cloudy days, we need the reservoirs to fill up so folks can stop pretending there is a seriousdrought going on. There will be enough hot sunny days to make up for this soon enough.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.
