I have a Wacom 8 x 11 that I use for making patterns and I love it
I've not used it much for writing ( my handwriting sux ) but it is a must-have for drawing. I think the software you use is important too.
There are other options out there geared specifically to writing I think. But the Wacom is the only one I am familiar with
Not much help but it is all I got

I want something that converts written notes into typed notes. Preferably interfaces with Word and Excel... Occasionally I think I find it, but then I am disappointed. Does Wacom have the handwriting recognition software?

Oh yeah, it has to cost waaaay less thatn $1000

hi,

I would first suggest trying MS OneNote with whatever interface (tablet) you have. OneNote has some functionality for HW to text. You can download a demo version on the MS site.

For the converting check out Microsofts OneNote. That software is pretty neat and offers the handwriting to text option.

I've used Wacom tablets for (Cough, Cough) years and they are the best for drawing in my book. I've worked on several different models and owned a few at home. A medium size seems to work best. Like around 7x9 or so, Not sure what the current sizes are. But, 12 x 18 is way too big and 5x7 is not quite big enough. The last one I bought was around $300.

As far as the handwriting goes, you will have to get additional software.

When I googled digital tablet I found the waucom. I saw how many different models and equipment there was so I decided to get some advice.

Robert, I down loaded Inkscape per Cathy's suggestion and read a tutorial that mentioned a waucom. I want this for drawing, not typing so yours and Mike's suggestion pretty much sells me on it.

What about software? Does it come with the tablet? Has the price remained the same or have thy become cheaper? Where is the best place to buy one?

Lastly, have you guys used the pens that work on plain paper?

Thanks for the info and help.

If I remember correctly , it came with some software but I was already using Paint Shop Pro 7 and a mouse ( yuck ) so I just loaded it and went to work
There is a bit of a learning curve associated with using it on PSP. I have Inkscape but have not played with it much
I got mine at Wolf camera during a killer sale . Would never have expected it to be there and I kind've stumbled on it . You might check there
Hope this helps some
Feel free to PM me if you want more details
