Why Sony? I'd HIGHLY recommend a Canon. IMHO better quality cameras at a good price. Go for the 3" screen ... you will not regret it. |

Jeremy, I have (had) a Sony digital that I am (was) happy with. My son had his first child and " borrowed" my camera. Since my grandson just turned 1 I do not think I am going to get the camera back.
I am looking to spend around $200 plus the cost of additional memory. Still think at this price I should take at look at Canon. |

If the camera uses the "SD" cards to store images, you can get an inexpensive reader that would allow you to take the card out of the camera, put it in a little holder and attach it to a USB plug. Your PC would just see it as a new "drive". You could then drag and drop pictures at will. Here is an example on eBay: SD Card Reader
I go one for less than $10 including shipping. Came from Hong Kong, but got here within a week.

Nothing against Sony (at least it's not Kodak), but the Canon is a lot better IMHO. I too have had Sony, and they are good, but since getting a Canon there is no looking back (no proprietary memory stick -- yuck, bad ; a better, metal case -- more durable ; and great picture quality ...plus the 3" screen is beautiful).
Here is the model I have and really like: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho.../dp/B000NK6J6Q
You can buy it and some memory (it uses SD cards which are usually more affordable than Sony's MemoryStick) for about $200-$225. |

Did I finally get lucky for a change. The Canon is on sale, free shipping, for $170. My new computer has an SD slot on the front. What more could I ask for.
Just took a second look and I can ask for more. With a 2GB SD it is only $194. |

I will agree with everybody else who recommended Canon.I have had two of them and have S-5 IS and it is great. The optics, the lack of shutter lag, quick powerup and the cheaper memory, need anymore reasons? How about finding what your looking for at a great price .
You will love it,and they also have the pict-bridge when it come time to print the keepers. .gif) |

I own Sony because it was compatible with all my old Minolta lenses. If I hadn't had them I'd have looked at the Canon or Nikon. I really like the Sony having the image stabilization in the camera as opposed to the lenses like Canon and Nikon. Makes every lens that way, not just the expensive IS lenses.
I actually make a few bucks photoshopping some digital shots of kids involved in Martial Arts. Enough to at least offset some of the the cost of that (yet another ) expensive hobby. Plus, it's like being Santa Clause when you see the kids eyes light up when you hand them a picture of themselves against a wild background I've made on the computer. Shooting action shots inside under harsh fluorescent lights without a flash is a challenge though.
Oh well, sorry to hijack the thread, I love digital images. Sure couldn't shoot a hundred or so film images three or four times a week. I'm sure you'll be happy with the Canon, it's a real well thought of unit. And 7.1 mp's is a nice size.
My son. Should be getting his black belt in June or July. Yeah, I'm proud as a peacock of him. |
