Diet Update

Last saturday, following WoodArtz, Tar Heel and Hook's example, I joined Weightwatchers. Today was my first complete week weigh-in. My group of about 30 people lost 29.2 lbs., of which I lost a whopping 10.4 lbs.! I know it will be slower going forward, but it was a great way to jump start things. I gotta loooonnnnggggggg way to go!

Re: Diet Update

Congratulations Doug!!! If I may suggest, some additional physical activity undertaken at a reasonable level will help burn calories. Prior to retirement I worked for a number of years in a college athletic department and was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the pounds left with proper diet and moderate exercise. Even brisk walking is a great spare tire deflater When the weather suits, some laps in your "cement pond" are a help also. I miss having 250,000 gallons of water to play in

Glenn:

I work out every day. I walk/jog an hour in the morning and 1/2 hour at lunch most days. At night I ride the lifecycle. I also play hockey part of the year. When the water gets a little warmer I swim 1/2 mile a day. (57 lengths.)

I work out but haven't lost any weight, but I haven't cut back on the eating either. I started back swimming after a few weeks off, and usually do about 1 1/2 mi. during my workouts which consist of hard interval training vs just swimming laps.

One of the main reasons I continue to swim is so I can continue to eat. When you get older and the pleasures become fewer, you just need to enjoy the ones that are left

Re: Diet Update

So, let's see. If I follow your example I should lose twenty pounds the first week (I have twice as much to lose!)

Congrats on your progress!

Re: Diet Update

Way to go Doug. My first week was also 10+ and the second was 5+ and it kept on going from that point on. I averaged a little over 3 lbs/wk for the first 21 weeks. The last few weeks have been slower and I even had 2 weeks that I gained 1 lb. There have been the only 2 weeks that I gained and it blew my mind. Keep up the good work. Are you on the flex or core plan. I'm on the core....counting points would frustrate the @#$% out of me.

Re: Diet Update

Tar Heel:

I chose the Flex plan to start with. Counting points works for me. I may try the Core plan later. Especially if I plateau. Thanks for the support everyone. I am even attending the meetings to the end.

Re: Diet Update

If you can find one, or have one, the Wii game console has a program called "Wii Fit". I;ve heard from a couple of gals that it is fun and good workouts.
