I am slowly working towards a business degree and one of the classes requires Office 2007 and I currently have Office 2003. this by itself is not a problem, I can do that. However I understand that there are so many differences between the 2 versions of 03 and 07 that I am concerned it will create alot of confusion with the misses having to learn it.
The short version is I want to install Office 2007 without having it uninstalll Office 2003 and be able to use either version. My instructor says it can be done but he could not remember how.
1 How can I do this?
2 Is it smart to do this? Being the instructor is the head of the computer department and could not remember how, do I really want to try?
Also Classes start Monday and its my weekend to work I need to go ahead and decide.

If you have a copy of Office 2007, just upgrade. There may be an adjustment period but they are not that dissimilar. Anyone that can use one can use the other in my opinion. |

I'm with Pete. The differences generally will not be a problem, especially for someone who do not use a lot of the bells and whistles features. Only concern is that you might want to watch the format you save files in. I believe it changes with 2007, but it has "save as" options to insure that you are backwards compatible.
Good luck on your classes. It is definitely worth the time and effort on payday. |

I've found it to be much more useful than Office, plus it was able to open a couple of corrupted files I had. Short learning curve also. MTCW; YMMV

At least I did it years ago with Office 95 and 97. (version number may be incorrect) My question is why would you want to, unless you had a program that needed the older version.( We did). The newer version will do everything and more that the older version does. |

This keeps them separate from the original partition at the expense of having to reboot every time you want to use a different version of Office. It's way more trouble than it's worth and you'll have to buy the software to create the partition.
On the other hand, Office 2007 will recognize 2003 documents and like Ray said you will be able to save them in a 2003 format even when using a 2007 version. Just keep your files on a thumb drive so you can work on them at home in 2003 and at school in 2007.
However, I'm with Pete and Ray - you'll have to update to 2007 eventually anyway, you may as well bite the bullet and do it now. Don't feel too bad - I started with punched cards which is the computer equivalent of scratching on cave walls! |

By default it does save in file.docx format which is not compatible with earlier versions, but as others have said, the save as gives the option to save in the earlier format. Then you could install Outlook 2007 as well and suck every last drop of computing power you have in to the black hole known as outlook 2007!!! Try and avoid that.......

The good news may be because I have to have it for school I may be able to be reimbursed after completion of the semester.

The menus are completely different and Microsoft even publishes a downloadable book for those of us use to earlier versions so we can find what we are looking for.
Here is the Microsoft link on how to install multiple versions of Office http://support.microsoft.com/kb/218861
