Travis, you said that beer doesn't cause you to want a cigarette but coffee does. The anwer to the coffee problem is easy....drink more beer.

But, on the topic of quitters, I can't STAND people who once smoked, quit, and then turn into the Smoke Police. The Cigarette Nazi's. Just because YOU decided to quit doesn't mean you now have to start preaching!

Bas,
I would have to agree with you on that point. My father was like that. Loved him dearly but after he quit that is all he talked about at times when we were around each other. I know he just meant well, but it got old after a while

I like that
But it sure makes getting up in the morning more difficult than coffee

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

November 2nd, 1982 was my last Merit! I went to the hospital, a 38 year old, with a pack of Merit Menthols in my pocket. I was a 2 pack a day smoker.

Have not smoked since. No cravings, no problems. I guess I switched to "other vices" since I did have a 2nd heart attack, but I wonder what the damage would have been had I continued to smoke.

To all of you who are struggling, the result is definitely worth the effort, I assure you. You can't name one truly good thing about smoking. (Oh yea, and don't take up "smokeless" tobacco either!)

Good luck and God bless all you "Quitters!":eusa_cla p

Man, I wish you'd run for president!!

I have been NEARLY tobacco free since December...brief relapse off and on in Feb (1 or 2 smokes a day). The relapse extended my nic patch use...I have about 4-5 days of the very weak patch and they're gone for good. Honestly, there are days when I forget to replace a patch and I don't notice any cravings. I'm over it, just need to stay the course.

I may start again in a few years or may not and don't see it as a big deal either way.

For the record I LOVE a very nice cigar. I just can't smoke em for a while. Gotta let the pipes clean out for a few years.

Bas, newtowood;

I would have to agree with you on that point as well! But after 6+ years in the non-smoking side, I catch myself preaching some. When you first stop that smoke smell is sooooo good, but as time passes you will get to a point that you can not stand the smell!!! And if you work in a place that allows smoking and 4 of the 7 in your dept. smokes and your boss smokes, It can take you breath away!! And yes I will preach some!! But so much for the preaching, I'm very glad all of you have stopped, my hat is off to all of you.

A little preaching is good for us. Keeps us thinking. The thing that gets me is when someone quits and then acts like you are the worst person in the world for having a weak moment, after they spent most of their life smoking. And on the lighter more positive side I am feeling better since I quit. Been four weeks now!!!!!!!!!

I liked cigars and a pipe, Can't stand them now!! If you are over the craving you have it kicked. But when offered one just say no thanks.
You and all of you are doing great Keep it up...

To all of you discussing the smoke police, I only do it occassionally. My occassionally is not to say anything, just to stand or sit near someone that is smoking to get a whiff of it. Ahhh... You can call it a nasty habit, but I still love the smell of them......

Great job, everybody.
I have quit-I know-probably 2-300 times before, and it never worked. I have been free of the nasty things since July 2001 this time. And, believe it or not, I quit cold turkey. And I have absolutely no cravings at all. Yep-easiest thing I ever did. My inspiration was my first Grandson being born. Didn't want him to see me smoking-because he thinks whatever PaPaw does is OK.

My older daughter recently quit via Chantix(sp?), and I'm mighty pleased.
Now, gotta get the younger one to follow suit......

Congrats to all who have quit and for those trying...KEEP TRYING, it's worth it.

I finally quit on April 1st, 1977. I had STOPPED twice before but always went back...coffee was hard and then drinks after work was even harder.

What worked finally was promising myself for six months prior. I told anyone and everyone that would listen to me that on April 1st I would toss my cigs and quit for good.

Low and behold, I woke on April 1st and couldn't light up and I've never looked back.
