As we get ready to fill up the fuel tank for the ride to Jordan Lake here's something to think about from News of the Wierd:

Did you know?
Did you know that according to an article published on CNN.com, the U.S. does not even rank in the top 100 most expensive countries in which to buy gas? Number two on the list, for example, is Norway, at $8.73/gallon. The UK closely follows at $8.38/gallon, and Portugal is number nine at $7.84/gallon. At the time of publication, CNN ranked the U.S. at number 108 at $3.45/gallon. The numbers may make you feel a bit better, at least until it's time to fill up again.

Eritrea (in Africa) is at $9.58/gal.

Doesn't make me feel a bit better! They also have much better mass transit systems that will get you just about anywhere you want to go!

But, Eritrea only buys about 20 gallons a year.

How do you think they fund those mass transit systems? In Holland, they have an excellent rail- and bus system, but gas is extremely expensive. Road tax, title, registration are also costly. Taxes are also much higher in Holland. For the top "slice" of your income, the percentage can be as high as 60%. But, you pay less for education and health care. The store-bought bread is better there. But the steaks are pitifully small. The houses are built more solid. But very few have enough room for a workshop. Holland is often rainy and miserable, but you don't have triple digit summers.

Every place has advantages and disadvantages. For me, NC is the place to be Especially since it's picnic time tomorrow!!!

When I lived in Germany (1996-2000) gas on the economy was about $5.60 a gallon. Luckly I could buy gas on the US military bases where I worked for about $1.35 a gallon or buy coupons at the PX for the Exxon stations in Germany. Otherwise travel was very expensive. They had a good rail system we also used for trips or tour buses.

For tomorrow, let's "fill 'em up" and roll with it! There will be only ONE 2008 Sprint North Carolina Woodworker picnic, and it sounds like the weather will be nice! I can't wait!!:eus a_danc

So, I'm gonna load up this 15 mpg Ram, and head on down!

See you tomorrow!!!!

For me, it is about ten miles, at 22 MPG, but for Dick and Rita, it is about two miles. And they are driving a car that gets over 50 miles to the gallon. They should have plenty of "surplus gas" to give away, as they aren't using it. Did you hear about the guy who sold his truck to get some gas money?
