call from the doctors office "update"

I know they called me into the doctors office to impress upon me the seriouness of my condition and how carefull I need to be until the surgery.

They could have saved their time. My wife has me on house arrest. I am not allowed to set foot in the shop or go to the barn. I thought she was going to blow a cork when I could not tell her the name of the procedure to be preformed. I told her all I know is I need to shave my beard because they are going to cut a hole in the front of my neck and fix whatever is wrong. This is all I need to know. Don't understand why it is not sufficient for her.

When I told my wife I thought I would at least go over to the box stores and day dream over tools I found out what house arrest really means. I expect her to come home with one of those monitoring divices to put around an ankle.

My fingers are not working properly, a sympton of my problem according to the doc, so maybe you guys will not have to put up with to many boring posts before I have surgery. I am going to go nuts until this is over.

Re: call from the doctors office "update"

How come your typing with fingers that don't work right is better than my typing with fingers that do (sort of)?

It sounds like to me the loyl plans on keeping you around for a few more years. I'd keep her if I was you.

Tiger Woods was not the first to find a beautiful blond from Sweden. I do not plan on letting her go anywhere.

I've been away for a bit, but stopped in today for selfish reasons, saw the title of your thread, and wanted to wish you good luck!

Hope you're back to work soon!

Days till surgery, this is really frustrating. They call me in a scare me half to death and then tell me surgery will be Aug. 19. This after looking all over Charlotte for an OR room. It will take place at CMC. I still do not know if it will be inpatient or not. Any quicker and the doc would have to declare an emergency and prove it to his peers.

I gave the doc's nurse a list of questions to see if I can have a little relief from the house arrest my wife has me on.

If it does not weigh over 5 lbs. I can pick it up. I have some drawers and bases I have already cut dovetails in. I can glue these up and sand them. I can start the tuneup on my bandsaw. I can start practicing cutting bandsaw boxes.

I am even allowed to pick tomatoes as long as I do not lean over.

Folks, I know how lucky I am. This could be a lot worse. I sat in the waiting room and watched some of the young kids going in and out and felt guilty taking up the docs time.

My definition of minor surgery " That which they perform on someone besides me".

Keye, hang in there. Yes you want this behind you quickly but nothing happens quick. Gee 5 lbs limit. Sounds like a perfect time to take up pen turning.

Re: call from the doctors office "update"

Keye, is this for discs in your neck? It's looking like I have to have the same thing soon, though I still have feeling in my fingers but my arm's sore all the time. I knew it was disc-related as I've had sciatica before and it feels similar but higher up.

The doc tells me that recovery time is less than for lumbar discectomies.

Best of luck and let us know how it turns out. I still have to have one more test before we do mine. Gettin' older ain't all it's cracked up to be...

Steve
