Keye:

I would have wished you good luck regardless, but having met you on the Charlotte crawl and getting to know the kind of guy you are I my wishes are even more heart-felt. Good luck. Imagine what it would be like under the worst conditions and you could never pick up you grandson. Seems like the right choice.

Doug

I had a C5-C6 discectomy (complete removal of the disc and replacement with a titanium reinforcing plate, stainless screws and cadaver bone chips) 3 years ago at the ripe young age of 29. One night in the hospital, 8 weeks of not lifting more than 5 lbs and at the end of 8 weeks, the Doc released me to do firefighting with no restrictions. I still had a little bit of pain for about the next year, but nothing like before I had the surgery. Mostly some muscle pain, knots and cramping in my upper back and shoulders. I haven't regretted the decision for an instant. I hope yours goes as smoothly!

Best wishes Keye! I hope everything works out as it should so you can get back to slinging lumber and riding the horses!

Keye,

Best of luck with this back thing... I'll keep you in my prayers.

My mom had a similar experience. She was in a car accident which caused some neck pain. She thought nothing of it and just saw a chiropractor for 3 years. After that time she was still in pain and experiencing some numbness. Found out that there was so much swelling that all it would take would be a little bump to cause her to be paralyzed. VERY SCARY!!! She had surgery last October and seems to be okay now. She still has a bit of weakness but the strength will come in time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you 100%. Hang in there

Keye,

I'm so sorry to hear the news, but it sounds like you have a good doctor. I bet you'll be fine. I guess you could look at it like, "at least I have the option of having this surgery or who knows what might happen."

You're in my prayers. Best of luck!

Trent
