I just got back from a run to the BORG in Knightdale. While I was browsing in the hardware section, I noticed that they had a crew reseting the inventory of hinges, latches, brass kickplates, etc. There were ~6 shopping carts filled with Stanley hardware. Each basket had a hand written sign with some code and the word "DESTROY" on the bottom. I just HAD to ask one of the workers.....and they meant what it said. All of that stuff had to be thrown away! There appeared to be no real effort to clearance the items beforehand (newest yellow tag was not even 25% off original price).

I couldn't believe that bounty of goodies was headed for the dumpster. I wonder if it makes to the dumpster because he wouldn't let me take it. What a waste.

Maybe a defect from the manuf requiring them to ditch them for liability reasons?

I think I'd check the dumpster!

When I worked for another retail giant in the office supply world, occasionally we would get similar orders, esp. in regard to furniture. We had to take perfectly good desks, cabinets, and shelves, and bust them up so they were unusable and throw them in the dumpster. The waste made me sick. Why not donate them to a charity or something? Sheesh!

I agree Charles.

Jeremy, I believe the mix of hardware was too varied to be defective and they were replacing it with another brand or at least different packaging.
And I even needed some new gate hardway!!!!
