bluebird safety

Finally after 3 years my bubba birdhouse has attracted bluebirds !

Their names are Richard and Hyacinth ( any British comedy fans out there ? )

Any suggestions from anyone on how to keep the snakes away ?
I thought about baffles at the bottom of the trees similar to squirrel deterrents
Would this work ? Any other ideas ?
Thanx for any info

Baffles would work from below if they were long enough - it's from above that may be the problem.

Re: bluebird safety

Mans best friend is also a great snake chaser...

More than once during my childhood on the western edge of Raleigh my mixed breed (mostly German Sheppard) treed snakes in her fence...

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

LOML is a big fan of "Keeping Up Appearances" I prefer "As time goes By" . . .
. . . but I digress ..........

LOML suggested Tanglefoot (http://www.tanglefoot.com/) to keep the bad guys away.

Re: bluebird safety

Robert, a sheet metal baffle around the tree should work just dandy.

LOML and I watch KUA every Saturday on PBS (I have the Complete Bouquet (spelled B-u-c-k-e-t) on DVD). Of course, Hyacinth's opening act is LOSW (ooohhh, Nora Batty!)

Re: bluebird safety

Cool pic Robert. The misses loves her bluebirds and I enjoy them too. A predetor guard lke Tom described would be the best. Let me sugest relocating the box after nesting season of course and mounting it on a steel pole,a tree is not the best place because it is so easy for predators to get to the nest.

Here's a couple of links you might find interesting
