I received this e-mail today and was wondering if NC law allows real estate purchases using an ATM card. If so, I will be buying Woodcraft, Woodworkers Supply, Klingspors, Wall Lumber etc . and every day will be 50% off day for DQ North Carolina Woodworker members

Greetings

This is to officially inform you that we have verified your contract
inheritance file presently on my desk and have found out that you have
not received your payment due to your lack of co-operation and not
fulfilling the obligations giving to you in respect to your
contract/inheritance
payment. It was also observed that you have been dealing with some
faceless officials of the bank who have promised to help you receive
your payment and by this letter, your are very strongly adviced to
stop further dealings with them as this is an illegal act if you so wish to
receive your payment immediately.

After the board meeting held at our headquarters, we have resolved in
finding a solution to your problem and that of others in your category
hence approval was today granted to you and those in your category to
be paid via our SWIFT CARD PAYMENT CENTRES in Europe, America and Asia
Pacific which is the new instruction given by our President, Alhaji
Umaru Musa Yar Adua (GCFR) Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This card centre will send you an ATM CARD which you will use to
withdraw your money from an ATM MACHINE in any part of the world but
the maximum is ($15,000.00) per day and ($5,000) per transaction.

So, if you have any objection to your being paid through this means,
kindly let us know immediately before your payment is computed into
the SWIFT ATM CARD but if you are okay with this arrangement, then
complete the information below and return same as quickly as possible. The
total amount to be loaded into the SWIFT ATM CARD to be sent to you is
$12.5M.

(1) Your Full Name :
(2) Your Address where you want the payment centre to send your ATM
CARD.:
(3) Phone And Fax Number :
(4) Age and Occupation :
(5) Your Nearest International Air Port in your City of residence:
Thanks for your co-operation.

Best Regards,

MR.Olubumi George

Sure ya can buy real estate with an ATM card. I've got some prime mountaintop property available in FLORIDA! It's even got a ski lift!
Do these folks think ANYBODY is gonna fall for this scam? 'Course it only takes one now & then.

I don't know about real estate, but I have a friend who bought a Volvo on a Master Card once. She was visiting in NJ when she found the exact model of used Volvo she had been looking for. Called the credit union and had them transfer money from savings account to credit card, and bought the Volvo. Drove it back to NC.

Glenn, that is an exceedingly fun thought, and an exceedingly generous offer. Just exclude turning tools from the deal.

There needs to be a bit more emphasis on the 40 Thieves...

Back in 1993 I bought a new Plymouth Sundance and when it came time to close the deal the salesman asked with a perfectly straight face if I wanted to use my credit card. Apparently, at least in my section of NJ, a credit card auto purchase was not unusual as crazy as that sounds.

A guy I work with does that with every major purchase. It's all about points and deferring payment. It has to be timed just right, but with some cards you can get the points and pay in time to avoid interest. Besides getting the points, it allows him to shop for a car loan at his leisure and extends the time to the first payment.
