Hello NC WW,
Some of you may know me; some of you may not, either way I just wanted to send out a message from Germany. For you that don’t know me I am in the Army and I was just re-assigned to Ansbach Germany. I am here and best friend (my wife) is still at Hope Mills trying to get our house ready to sell. I just wanted to let you know that I will be lurking from time to time on the site. And if anyone wants to come over here they have a warm North Carolina Woodworker welcome. My humble house is open for a European vacation for any one (we need to plan for this though) with free room and board at my house (once I get one on the local economy that is! Praying it will only be a week or two). Woodworking wise I do however have access to a great shop provided by the army so I will post further projects. God bless and have a great week.

Michael,
I drove through that area a few weeks ago.
I go over to Erlangen on a regular basis.
I'll let you know when I'm coming over in case you need a mule for anything.
Glad you made it safely. It's good to be in a place where they consider beer a food staple.
Ron

I speak German OK. I grew up in a German household but speak a slightly different dialect than Bayrisch. I speak Schwabisch. My family comes from the Stuttgart area.
I'll let you know when I'm planning a trip (looks like mid-September now).

Speaking Hoch-, Berlinisch, and a little bit of Flach-Deutsch, I didn't have much of a hard time in Bavaria, but on my last trip I was pegged as an American, not by sound or accent, but rather FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, while on the train up the Zugspitze.... sure do miss skiing at 10,000 feet, and Kapuziner Weisse

Howdy Michael!

We were stationed in Crailsheim 74-76 and spent a fair amount of time traveling back and forth to 1st Armor Division HQ in Ansbach. We still have very good friends in the area and my daughter's significant other's mom and dad are in Ohringen. Definitely take advantage of the Army's R&R facilities in Garmisch. It was our favorite place to visit and we always get at least a few days there when we return.

Thanks for the invite and glad to hear everything is going well for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in Germany. I also have very fond memories of Garmisch.

I spent ten of my Air Force years in Germany so I know you're going to love it! I second the Garmisch comment. White-water rafting in Austria is fun but cold! Take a train ride to Switzerland...it's beautiful and not to be missed. Interlakken was one of our favorite cities.
I wasn't a woodworker when I lived there so I didn't get to work with the local wood species but I bet you're going to love it. It's great the post has a woodworking shop. They probably have a lot of professional-level machines which isn't bad for $1 per hour.
Was wondering who I could get to send me some KinderEggs from the Commissary...hmmm.

Just let me know when and where to send the KinderEggs.

I am also very serious about anyone that wants to come over here for a vacations. I have a woodworking friend in Vermont that is planing on coming around April 09. I am scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan again Jan 2010. Just to let you know a rough timeline.
