I've been coming to this site regularly the last year or more & I've noticed something that is very pleasing. Perhaps the Moderators can weigh in on the reason; is the site mellowing out, or are you guys quick on the draw. Tell us, has your job become easier lately?
I'd like to think it has.

Re: ? for the Moderators

I will say that the membership at North Carolina Woodworker are true Ladies and Gentlemen. Every once in a while things are a little touchy as far as discussions go, but that is the exception rather than the rule. We have lightened up on our moderation practices somewhat and I feel that the change has mellowed the site. If we aren't having to moderate we aren't upsetting people and the whole site is better for it.

Actually, at the Spring Picnic all the BBQ was secretly seasoned with MellowMax(tm). It takes about 6 months before it reaches its full effect

Dennis, I totally share in your observation.

Says a lot about the culture our community has grown into.

Hats off to everyone!

Re: Question for the Moderators

Dennis:

I am pleased that you noticed a change. There has been a concious decision to soften our moderation and that has resulted in better behavior from the members, or vise versa. There are still occasional violations, and doubt they will ever go away completely, but things have improved.

Re: Question for the Moderators

I agree with the previous remarks about the quality of our membership. The last spate of inapprorpiate posts seemed to be around political issues and as a result of that storm some of our members have moved that kind of discussion to more appropriate venues. IMHO the majority of recent posts that have required moderator intervention have been posted by newer members unfamiliar with our goal of maintaining "the friendliest woodworking site on the net".

This is, without doubt, the most courteous membership I have ever come across on the web, long may it continue.
