I posted in the past about a photo upload issue, preventing upload-success, which turned out to have something to do with the flash versions used by both firefox 2.0.0.12 and seamonkey 1.1.9. I tried an experimental work-around, which works; I had no problem with uploading from an old netscape 7 on a 2.2.24 kernel RedHat 6.x, which is detected as noflash, so I copied down the url and entered it in the firefox browser:
http://www.ncwoodworker.net/pp/uploadphoto.php?cat=500&noflash=1
this worked OK, and gave me the noflash uploader, which tested an upload without problem.

I'm composing this in firefox on Vector-Linux 5.8.

Seamonkey help: about plugins reports:
Shockwave Flash

File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 9.0 d78

Firefox is not so helpful, there doesn't seem to be any direct way to find out about what it's using for flash, but it's OK with the workaround (firefox was the test-browser). I would presume it to be using the same flash lib as seamonkey (which is Vector-Linux 5.8 default browser), as both browsers have identical failure mode with the flash uploader.

HTH,

Re: Flash-upload-bug workaround (linux)

John,

If you are looking for the Shockwave Flash version that FF is using for the plug-in just go to Tools->Add Ons and click the Plug-Ins tab. The Shockwave Flash version of the plugin FF is using will be in that list.

If you are looking for the .so (shared lib) it's using specifically (i.e. you are compiling your own and want to replace the original) let me know and I should be able to help there too.

BTW any consideration to upgrade FF? 3.x is out and stable. Not sure about a version specific to your distro, but I've been running it on Open Suse 11.1 (as an example) for a while now with no issues.

Re: Flash-upload-bug workaround (linux)

Nope, no such info in this version of ff. I need GTK+-10.0 and only have 8.0, so the installer won't go for version firefox-3.5.3! VL hasn't put out any firefox updates for VL5.8, either, and I think they went commercial since I installed this OS; it works for me quite well as it is though.

If I can upgrade GTK+, then I can install the latest ff.

Thanks,

John

Re: Flash-upload-bug workaround (linux)

I looked at bit, seems that VL 6.0 might have what you need, gtk+ wise. They say its Gtk+: 2.12.9

Sounds like you can get by without flash.

Gotta love how difficult it is to make something look simple
