It looks solid, when you get it together you'll put stuff on and under the bench then your garage won't be so messy.

Thanks

Looks good, looks real good! What kind of vises are you going to use on the top?

Let me know what you think. Pardon the messy garage. I'm not sure where I'm going to put the bench. The area where the base is sitting is the only open space I have (had).

Mike, if space is a REAL problem, I've got just the place for that bench!! Are you about ready for the ash vise faces? If so, I'll dig it out and get it over to you soon. Need to visit the Woodcraft store in Matthews anyhow. Let me know.

That's really looking good! Are you going to add pads to the feet? Let me know when you need a hand setting the top on it!

The journey continues......

After 3 months of not touching my workbench base I finally got back to work on it this week. I know it's about time! I've wedged and glued both ends and all I have left to do is cut the wedges out of the long rails tenons, cut the wedges to fit into the tenons and glue it all up. Then I'll sand a scrape to smooth it out a bit and finish it with an oil finish. Would BLS be ok?

I will then get the top mounted and start working on mounting the two vices I have.

Pics will follow, but for now you can get a good idea of what it look like 2 post up.

Mike,

I'm looking forward to more of it. At least I know that there is someone else here that works at the pace as me on certain projects.

Good Luck,
Jimmy

Well....The end of the journey is near. Here are 2 pics of the base glued up and clamped and the last pic of the top on the base. I've used 1" birch dowels to secure the top to the base. The weight alone will keep the top from going anywhere. It sure is heavy! Now I need to get the vises on and figure out how to make it mobile. I am also planning on building a cabinet to fill the space below the top.

Ideas are welcome!!!

Aint it pretty????????????

Thanks Phillip. I've still got to get the vises on and oil the entire base, but it's a lot closer than I have been.

The sides are pretty well rounded over from previous years of use. Does anyone have any ideas on squaring the sides of the top?

Ok I take that back - your not going to park your car on the bench, your going to park a truck on it - looks like it would hold it too... Nice bench dude...
