Pretty work, Mike. It's coming along nicely. It looks like you're mortising skill level has moved well up the learning curve. They look very nice. BTW that wood is almost too pretty for a workbench base.

I also posted last night in an attempt to hold off Otto!

At the rate I'm going I should have my bench complete sometime in October (hopefully 2007!).

Thanks Chuck. Some mortises look better than others. Since the legs were glued up using 3 pieces the mortises were interesting. Most of the tenons were not the exact width of the center piece that was glued so when I was chiseling it was trick to keep from chiseling down the glueline. The last 4 mortises will be through the 3 pieces so they will hopefully turn out the best.

I'm going to try. I got the last stretcher glued up last night. Have to clean both up and then get chiseling the last 4 mortises.

Maybe I should give Jeremy a call and see if he'll let me use his mortiser. Jeremy you out there??? Can you hear me now???

I was wondering where you had been with the bench. Otto is always watching, but it is amazing how fast 30 days will fly without an update.

It does look good, and you have made good progress!

Hey Phillip.....I've got 2 of the last 4 mortises almost done and hope to finish the other 2 this weekend. Lots of little stuff to do, but I'll dry fit it together and get some pics posted soon.

Looks really, really good. How do you like those Columbian clamps? I bought all the heavy-duty ones my local Lowes had. I really like them.

Well here is progress on the base! This is the first time I've had it completely together. It is ROCK solid. All I really have left is to cut all the wedges and openings for the wedges in the tenons.

Let me know what you think. Pardon the messy garage. I'm not sure where I'm going to put the bench. The area where the base is sitting is the only open space I have (had).

Looks good, Mike ... and the fact that it's rock solid is going to make for a great bench!
