Check out Alan's rack. It should be pretty easy to make and looks like it might work for you. http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/s...ead.php?t=6495 |

I have a full wall of horizonal supports and two saw horses in the middle of the room with additional wood stored there. We are trying to get some off the floor. Lorraine Lorraine, there was quite an exchange on The Wood Works when I posted pics of my second (vertical) wood rack. As Travis said, if you keep the boards fairly vertical there should be do problem with bowing- as long as the wood is ALREADY DRY. Here is part of what I said about stacking vertically-
"I'm no expert and don't play one on TV, but first, I wasn't kidding when I said "If storing vertically is ok for Sam Maloof (world famous WW and chairmaker), David Marks (nationally known WW and TV WW), and Lon Schleining (Nationally known WW and WW author), then it was ok for me" - I've seen the pics. I think Norm does it too Now . . . . was this for drying green lumber, long or short-term storage of wet, damp, or kiln dried lumber, etc., etc. I can't say. If I were a betting man, I'd say it was for storage of DRY lumber, only."
With some of the lousy wood I got from the trees felled on my lot, it was necessary to be able to easily sort through, inspect, and select lumber- vertically is the way to go for this. |
