Today Travis Porter, his friend Tommy and Woodworker2000 came by to help me build a partition in my garage for my shop. Travis also was kind enough to bring his portable compressor and framing nailer.
We built the wall in two sections. The overall dimensions are 10' tall by 22.5' long. We did the framing, the door cut out and the opening for an AC unit. We also attached plywood to the shop side of the wall. When I finish that I will have all the electrical done, then insulate the all and then have the outside of the wall sheetrocked and mudded.
I intend to panel the entire inside of the shop and insulate the garage door.
My electrician friend and I went to the BORG yesterday and picked up the supplies for saturday's electrical work! I am stoked!! Wonder what it will be like to have good lighting and readily available outlets? Also I get to finish the shop which will free up lots of space presently taken up by the supplies.
I am going to move most of the stuff to the car side of the garage to get it out of the way. Hopefully this will minimize the dust problems. Don't forget, the partition has no sheet rock yet.
I WILL take pictures. I know, if there are no pics it didn't happen.
Doug, I'm very happy for you. I remember the excitement I went through 3 1/2 years ago when I was wiring, insulating, walling my shop. Progress comes quickly once you get the supplies and the time to work on it.
Well, my friend Mike had problems and could not get here until about 1 PM. We ran wire in the partition wall, knock holes in the back and side walls and started mount lights.
Travis was RIGHT. The sheet rock made a mess!!
After moutn 3 eight foot fixtures, the problems began. The 4th fixture was not the right one. We drove to LOwes to exchange it but they did not have the one we needed. So we went to HD. We got one a lot like the other three, but not the same brand. Wouldn't you know it the punch-out holes in the sides were not in the right places. Mike forgot the necessary tool, so it was back to the HD. But they didn't have it either. So ended saturday with Mike.
I continued alone running wire in the outside wall for the ddedicated circuit for the dust collector. What a PIA!!! The bulider actually had five (5!!!) studed together in four places on that wall!!! THnakfully Mike left his drill and 1' drill bit.
Today I cover the outside wall in T-10. It took 6 hours as I had to fit it around two windows, accommodate one existing outlet and the ceiling is 11.5' tall. It looks good and a picture will follow tomorrow (hopefully).
Mike is coming back on Saturday morning to wire the outlets on the back wall, wiring the lights and hooking up the outlets. During the week I will install the outlet boxes in the partition wall and the outside wall. build the support box for the AC/heater unit and install it over the door.
Hopefully on Sunday I can panel the back wall. The basic shop structure will then be done. Wish me luck!
