shop progress 2-9-08

One coat of Kilz and two coats of Glidden Ultra-Hide White eggshell finish and the shop is finally brighter than Carlsbad Caverns. Today was spent wiring all the outlets, 21 on the walls and 7 on the ceiling for lights, door opener, air cleaner, and drop cords. After about the 25th outlet I was getting a little loopy but I think it will be worth it not to have to mess with power strips and extension cords. I installed a photocell/motion detector fixture near the door in case I return at night with arms full from an attack of WGD I won't need to fumble for light switch. The labels on panel and light switches are positive proof that you should never let the overorganized anally rententive near a labelmaker . The wall outlets are spaced about 3 feet apart so in theory I can plug in a machine every 36" hmmmmmmmm,

Nice progress on the shop, Glenn! You can never have too many outlets.

Now, when is the shop warming party????

Thanks Randy, the shop warming will be a while yet, still have ceiling lights to hang. My bandsaw is still in the box, drillpress has not arrived from overseas yet, and the majority of the rest of my machines are in storage 12 miles away. I am trying desperately to be patient so I do not make a haste caused mistake in shop setup.

You will love the fact that you painted ahead of move in. When I built mine (8 years ago now) I was in too much of a hurry. It still isn't painted and I wish it was.

George, your shop would take 20 minutes to paint, but six weeks to move all the stuff around.

And yes, I will help paint.

Moving stuff ain't my thing.

PM me when you get everything moved out.

Jim

Looks good, Glenn, real good.

But one question: Why did you label the breakers? Won't that take all the fun and mystery out of it?

Re: shop progress 2-9-08

Glenn, your shop is looking real good. When I built mine I thought I had all the outlets laid out where I needed them and plenty of them. Wouldn't you know it though I wound up still needing a 220 outlet in a place where I hadn't put one. Oh well, guess thats life in the woodshop.

Looks good!!

You won't regret the electrical at all IMO. Also like the fact that you put your windows up high enough that you can run benches or put other stuff under them!

Re: shop progress 2-9-08

The shop looks great! I like the ideaa bout the motion detector light. Let us know how that egghell paint works out. I'm thinking of using washable flat but may upgrade if it's available. We use a lot of WF in commercial work & shied away from eggshell because it isn't easily patched. I guess you aren't worried too much about that in your shop, though. Wanna see those lights when you get 'em up too.

Re: shop progress 2-9-08

Glenn, I'm only about 30 mins. from you. If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to let me know. The head on the drillpress will be pretty heavy and you'll need help lifting it...DAMHIKT!
Also, I have a 5x10 trailer with a ramp which would help during the relocation from storage to shop!
