WoodCentral and Woodcraft/Woodcraft Magazine are holding an "America's Top Shop" contest, so I said, "What the hey," and submitted an entry.

Here is a link to some of the entries. My entry, #817, is on page 2.

I would like to know if there are actually 800+ entries, or if those numbers were randomly assigned, and how they selected the few entries they posted? If there are that many, it will be tough to win anything, since there is even some tough competition among the few entries they posted.

It appears that the contest software truncated some of my descriptions (word count methodology different than MS Works?) or else they messed up when they posted my entry. I had to send it via email for them to upload manually when, for some unknown reason, I was unable to upload it directly via the WoodCentral web site. Since the contest is supposed to be more about unique aspects, problem solving, etc. (even behind the scenes stuff) than about a shop that looks good, I hope they update my text, or that the judges get to see the entire un-truncated text.

I spent a lot of time this last week trying to learn enough PhotoShop in order to create pic-in-pic photos to get around the 5 pic limit. A big thanks to Ernie Miller (enm, mister hapsichord) who helped me learn enough photo shop to do what I needed. I ran out of time so had to include a few less-than-stellar shots. I submitted hi-res pics taken with my wife's cheap little 8 megapixel camera, but, of course, they posted them in extremely low res for web viewing. I am sure the judges will see them in high res on a computer or as prints. I'll paste the actual shots here:

Wow there are some impressive shops in that listing. I really hope you win, but you're up against some really stiff competition. Did you bring out the Green Missile??
No one has one of those, and Homeland Security is happy about that

Nicely presented Alan, I would have entered but there was not a "most disorganized" subcategory I wish you luck against some strong competition.

Good luck, Alan. I think you have a great looking shop.

One common themes I noticed with all of the shops is their super efficient dust collection systems. Anyone else notice the marked absence of ANY dust in them? My kitchen isn't that clean!

Unfortunately, judging will be by a panel of four "experts" so there will be no stuffing the ballot box x

You sure are a definite contender there, Alan!

I wish you all of the best of luck. You sure did a great job with the write-up and the photography. Your DC engineering alone warrants some top recognition!

I am looking forward to hearing that you have been selected as the nation's winner!!!

Good Luck!

Wayne

Good luck Alan! You definitely have one of the most ingenious shops I have ever read about, and I would think you have a very good shot at winining.

One day I hope to check it out in person.
