Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Scott,
Thank goodness no one was in there. I am very sad for you and echo all previously said. I'll help in any way needed.

Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Numb can't begin to describe the feelings you must be having after this tragic loss -- but fortunately no one was hurt. I looks like the FD got there fairly early, but that the fire was already well established. I'd offer to come assist if I wasn't 240 miles away, but it looks like there are many others in the area willing to help with your rebuild. My condolences, this really sucks.

Scott: If there's anything I can do for you, please let me know. That's a tough break Brother.

But, I know you, you'll make it even better.

Unhappy Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Geeze, this just seems unbelievable. The pictures tell a smoldering story.

Glad that you're physically okay, though I'm sure the mental shock of it will take longer to rest. As I know you would offer any one of us, we would definitely all offer you the same -- if there is anything we can do to help just ask.

Any idea on the cause?

Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Scott,

I am truly sorry. Like everyone else, I'd be more than happy to help in any capacity you can use me. I live in Sanford, and pass through the New Hill area pretty much every day, so I can stop by anytime.

Also, if it helps, I'm a structural engineer, so if there is anything I can do help with the re-design or possibly expedite the permit process, I'm happy to help.

Keep your head up.

Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Scott, as you know I'm retired, so when your ready, I am there. Plus, the demo and rebuild can become a formal North Carolina Woodworker event(s).

Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

All - thanks much for the kind words and offers of assistance. As I get further down the road, I'll probably take y'all up on your kindness.

I'm still numb; and I don't think that it's totally settled in yet. The good news is that there doesn't appear to be any additional flare-ups; the one that we had late yesterday was extinguished by myself and some of the farm hands using pumping equipment and tanks that I had elsewhere on the farm.

Although the fire department's investigation is complete, as I understand it the next step will be the insurance investigation, and then working with the claims representative. Fortunately, the local fire Marshall speaks very highly of my insurance co, so hopefully that won't be too difficult.

Until we complete all of the investigations and claims work, it's probably pretty important to leave the building "as-is" in order to facilitate their work. After that, I'll need to put together a plan for the demolition and removal of the tools, etc. The biggest challenge is that the upstairs floor fell through in places and is resting on a lot of the shop equipment, and I want to be careful with the demo so as to not drop the rest of the floor and totally mess up the remaining equipment.

For the next several days my focus will be to categorize, list, and obtain prices on all of the equipment that was in the shop, and to work with the insurance co. Fortunately I have a lot of photos to help jog my memory.

Probably the earliest that we start demo will be next week or weekend.

Thanks again for all of the kind words - it really helps.

Scott

Since you are not ready for physical help as of yet, I am willing to help "to categorize, list, and obtain prices on all of the equipment that was in the shop."

Just send me a PM.

Doug

Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Scott -

My heart goes out to you. I've often wondered what I would do and how I would feel if this happened to me. I have not yet been able to imagine it.

Has the cause been determined yet?

George

Re: Fire at Scott's Shop

Scott,
That is one bad fire. Any idea what caused it? One good thing is that it was not attached to your house. I'm in Apex if you need a hand.

Scott, let me know if I can help when the time comes to demo/rebuild. I am glad to hear that no one was injured in the fire, but I can't imagine the stress. We are here for you. Take care.
