The Phoenix is rising!
Very nice!
It says a lot about how you treat others and their property when someone will let you borrow a 25 ton crane.

Scott, I am always amazed and inspired by what you accomplish. I knew from our meeting a while back that you were into a lot of things, but man, is there anything you can't do? Keep up the good work but please don't let my wife see all that you've done.

Maybe North Carolina Woodworker should cartoonize you like that insurance commercial and you can be the official mascot

Take care.

All: Many thanks for the kind and encouraging words. It's taken a while to get to this point, but as many of you know there is a lot of self satisfaction from building something yourself (a trait that we all share), as well as the sense of indenpendance that is beyond my ability to describe.

Rob - be careful what you offer... I may take you up on it!

Andy, re the crane, in this case it's one of those "what went around, comes around" type of deals (It's always nice to have someone else owing you a favor, right?!). I do try to be careful with others equipment and return it in better condition than I borrowed it.

Dick, re the floor heat, I plan to use some type of hybrid system made up of water heaters, solar, heat exchanger from the generator, and potentially a wood fired boiler (and not necessarily in that order).

Mike - AMEN! That's already part of the planning process; my biggest obstacle right now is having adequate quantity and pressure for the system (I'm on well water). I've got some ideas in this area, but the sprinklers will probably follow the construction completion.

Glennbear - I like Farmtek a lot, but in this case I opted for an "open" radiant heat system that would not require the more expensive pex-al-pex tubing that a closed system would require. Mine uses around six thousand feet of plain old 1/2" pex.

MikeL and Doug - <grin>

DaveO - I'm still waiting for the architechs at the green square project to agree to a final milling thickness. I've recommended 5/4 to them, and let them know that they have until the end of December to make a decision. I'm planning to mill the logs sometime in January, and will let you know.

I'll post more pix as the project develops.

Nice work Scott...and quickly too!

What are you planning to do for your bioD? Are you going to set up your own "refinery" for converting feedstock, or are you planning to reconstitute/recycle fryer and other vegoils?

Scott, do you play an instrument, sing, paint or sculpt? Because if you got one of those talents, then you are truly a Renaissance man! Or, in more modern terms, MacGyver with big toys Awesome progress on the shop, what do you have planned after that? Hydrodam?

I imagine you will need some kind of water tower or stand pipe to supply the sprinklers, you don't want to depend on electric power for the water pressure. If you have a perfect storm with all systems failing during a fire you want that pressure to be there.
