Someone is going to be very, very happy here. Even if they are 3PH it still looks like a load of fun for short money.

Rockwell/Delta Wood Lathe
Delta/Rockwell Unisaw

Usual disclaimers - not my post and no relation to seller. Good luck to all who decide to look deeper ...

Re: Delta/Rockwell Lathe - Unisaur / $350 each!

its not a bad deal but keep in mind you will need a single phase motor or a converter. motors for a uni run around 350. also if its an older one and i believe it is the motor runs at 1720 rpm or thereabouts. the new 1 ph motors run at 3450 or thereabouts meaning a new set of pullys and belts. another 80 bucks unless you find em somewhere other than delta. with the new motor you may also need a magnetis switch. the old ones had restart buttons on the motor. new ones dont. the fence is servicable but you will soon want to upgrade to a beis or unifence. thats how the game is played. get used to it! if this saw has been used in a production shop [ and it probly has. see 3 phase... ] you will probly be looking at arbor bearings or maybe even a new arbor. check here.. lots to read and good info. Unisaw FAQ DAMHIKT.

fred p... proud owner of a 1948 former 3 PH unisaw.

PS the lathe could get even more interesting.

Re: Delta/Rockwell Lathe - Unisaur / $350 each!

Lathe is a good bet if it is in good condition and all major pieces are there.

It just needs a VFD - which will improve the performance of the lathe anyways, beyond what it was new (lower low end, braking, reverse).

The unisaw appealed to me, but Fred's right..it'll run something on the order of $350-700 to convert to 1 phase and replace the fence - assuming negligible repairs to the machine itself.

With a little scrounging, you can build a rotary converter for less than $100. You can also order a Grizzly motor to fit this saw. But saw-$350 + motor- $400 + new fence- $350 brings total to $1100 +/-. Just think a couple of weeks back Amazon was selling new Uni's for about $1000 delivered.
