"Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

A friend of mine is looking to unload several hundred feet of 6" metal duct pipe. He contacted me today to see if I wanted it; otherwise it's going to the scrap yard later this week.

The pipe is new, but was removed from some appartment buildings due to a code problem or something. It was tossed in the mud when removed, so it has some dirt on it, and a few pieces got stepped on. It's the type of pipe that slips inside each other, 10' lengths, similar to stove pipe.

The bulk of it is 6", with some 4" thrown in.

I told my friend that I'd post it here, and if there was an interest I'd let him know. The "amost free" statement reflects the fact that someone will have gas and time invested in picking it up; otherwise it is free.

The pipe is in Rocky Mount, NC. Let me know of any interest ASAP, as it will need to be gone by this weekend.

Scott do you know if that's black double wall stove pipe or is it galvanized HVAC duct. Sorry to make more work for you if you don't already know.

Thanks

Re: "Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

Scott,

If there is any left, I wouldn't mind 100' or so of the 6" as long as it's the duct kind.

Thank you in advance.

Jimmy

I am just wondering if this stuff can be used to create a vac system in the garage to suck up the sawdust with my dust collector.

Re: "Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

Jeff, to my knowledge it is galvanized HVAC duct.

Looks like there is a lot of interest - the next thing we need to figure out is how to pick it up, store and distribute it.

Anybody with a pickup and/or trailer want to make a trip to Rocky Mount?

Re: "Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

Chad, there are approximately three pickup loads of pipe. A pickup with a trailer (such as the typical 16' deck car hauler) should be able to bring it all back, providing that there are either sides or some type of stakes on the side of the trailer.

The pieces are 5' long, however many sections have 2 or 3 pieces still spliced together.

They are located at a construction site approximately 3 miles from Exit 472 on I 95 in Rocky Mount.

There is good pavement just about all the way to the pipe - it can be backed right up to for loading. It needs to be loaded tomorrow (Friday).

Are you able to pick it all up and handle the distrubution to the other folks that are interested in it?

Re: "Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

All - I spoke with Chad, his truck and trailer is not large enough to pick up enough material for everybody.

Is anybody from the Raleigh area available with a pickup and/or trailer that can meet Chad in Rocky Mount tomorrow at 2 pm? Although my friend only wanted to deal with one person, one other alternative may be to have several folks meet on site at the same time...

Re: "Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

I can go after work but I do not get off until 4:00..
But it sounds like you are going to need somebody there before that.
If I can still come that late, I will....or if there is anything else I can do to help, just let me know.
I live in the Garner/Clayton area.

Re: "Almost free" 6" metal duct pipe

Michael, let's see if anybody else volunteers who can go earlier. How about sending my your contact number in a PM (where I can reach you tomorrow during the day).

Do you have a large enough truck/trailer to be able to bring back enough for everybody that has expressed an interest?

Thx.
