I'm replacing the dinky metal porch posts on my house, and I want to use rough cut posts. So I'm looking for some big (maybe 10x10, or even 12x12) posts, rough cut. I'm guessing cedar or cypress, though I'm open to whatever. So what's your advice--what;s the best wood to use, and where could I find a good deal. And what's a reasonable price to pay for such wood? thanks!

Ben, for something that large I would suggest that you send a PM to Ivey and see if he can mill some cypress for you. It will be very difficult to find cedar that large.

Mark Patterson in Sanford may have some some cedar posts - usually 4 x 4 or 6 x 6 is as large as you can find.
