tupelo dust!

I was milling some large blocks of Tupelo tonight and man does it produce DUST! Its as bad as MDF. Nice thing is that it is light as a feather and easy to carve.

What are you making and what does the wood look like?
I'm attempting to do a duck "decoy". It is intended to be an impressionist piece rather than a lifelike copy. The blocks used for this are typically 8x8x16 or comparable depending on the species. The wood is super light. I'll try to get some pictures later.

Re: tupelo dust!

Tupelo or Black Gum, Swamp Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica/aquatica) is the best wood for decoy carving. It is very light in weight and often needs weight added to get it to float right and takes fine details as well or better than Basswood

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Tupelo Dust? Ain't he a blues musician whose releases are on Fat Possum Records?
