Went there this morining and got 104 bdft s3s red oak for 2.65 a bdft
got 24 bdft of rough walnut for 3.95 bdft.

Pretty much all board are 7+ wide, i requested that , they acted like that wasn't happy about it. They brought the skid out to my truck and i loaded it. so i didn't understand why they where not happy about requesting a size.

Only bad thing about it is you have to purchase a $400 minium.
my total was $397 with tax.

John,

Sounds like the prices were great but the service was questionable? Did they say anything about what they did't like? Is asking for lumber by size a bad thing? (It's certainly OK any place else) Or was the price contingent on not asking for sizes.

From what i understood the guy there said is They are in buisness to sell lumber and not sort lumber.

Which is funny i talk to a couple of different people there the last week or so and they told me it wouldn't be a problem. I would have to do it myself, which is fine with me. Which i still did any way.
The warehouse guy brought a stack to my truck and most of l the boards where 7" + i took it from the top of the stack and pushed it on to my truck.

also the prices changed from the last time i called. I mention it to him what i was quoted and he told me someone told me wrong. and it was about .35 a bdft. more. which made it about $50 more.

which it was still cheaper than what i would of paid by driving to wall lumber and buying the wood and having it milled by them. about .80 on the oak and $2 on the walnut.

The Raleigh store is actually in Garner. They have the attitude that they don't want to be bothered by small orders. Same with Horizon since they moved from Fuquay to Raleigh. Both usually have a booth at the Carolina's Expo in GSO. Be sure and stop by and let them know that you are buying from their competition. From experience, I know of one vendor who wouldn't sell to me until I stopped at booth in GSO and told district manager why I didn't buy from them. Now I can. The wheel that squeeks loudest gets greased first!

I'm with Bruce on this one. From what you describe, John, their customer service / attitude stinks. Management and owners should hear about that. And we should shop elsewhere. Unless someone tells me that this is an isolated incident, I will shop elsewhere.

I think it was just the one guy.

I stoped in earlier and the guy i talked to was not there.
He took me out and showed me the lumber and we talk for about an 1/2 hr.

I will give them another chance since the guy could of been just having a bad day.

John,

You're right. While they shouldn't take it out on you, anyone can have a bad day. Let us know how the next few experiences are... like most folks, I'm more apt to do business with those who offer good customer service.
