Name: Bill Anderson City: Chapel Hill State: NC County: Chatham Join Date: Oct 2005 Age: 59 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 0.23 over 30 days | I have some quartersawn beech (4" X 4" by 60"), about 100 billets, which I intend to use as planemaking blanks. The wood was bandsawn about 6 weeks ago, stacked (about 50% open spacing) and covered. I have been monitoring the drying process (the stack is set up so that I can pull out a billet from the middle and weigh it periodically). So far, the reference billet has lost about 30% of its weight. I would like to kiln dry at least some of this wood so I can begin to use it immediately. Not prepared to wait 4 years to get it to stable air-dry weight! Does anyone know of a local kiln operator who is likely to take small loads for drying?

I know he has a nice dehumidification kiln. I don't know how he would do with small charges, but he has dried several charges for Jeff and the results were perfect. He's not too far from you either

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

The only kiln type capable of drying that material in that thickness is a vacuum kiln and those are pretty pricey to run. |
