This thing is growing off a small white oak tree in my back yard. Is it a fungus, seed pod or what? There are a few more in the same tree.
Thanks,
Jack

The spawn of the pods from DaveO's basement?! I've heard they carry the turners disease and should be eradicated unless you want to fall to the powers of the dark side!!

It's probably some sort of insect gall, but I have never seen anything like it in my life

It might be a Wool Sower gall, that's the closet thing I can find with some quick research

More gall info -

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

I would suggest taking it to your local ag extension office. They will most likely be able to identify it for you.

Thanks everyone,
I will watch it over the next week and take a few more pictures as it changes. I think it is what DaveO posted, a wooly sower gall.
