Robert is this the article? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071230/...stealing_trees

That's amazing, it's not like you can slip in quietly and sneak off with a few trees I guess most of the landowners are absent like it said in the article or don't actually live on their woodlots. A good friend of mine has ~500 acres in S. VA as a woodlot, and he often finds small harvests and the cruises the timber about once a month (Forestry major )

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Should be charged with grand theft. I have heard horror stories about it in the past but thought it was more of an urban legend than anything.

That happened to my MIL in WV about a year ago. Loggers were on the adjoining property and "accidentally" cut some of her trees. She had to fight them to get paid for the trees they cut and they didn't pay her but half what the trees were worth. Some people will steal anything!!

Saw a thread bout this at woodnet a few days ago. I should'nt have been surprised but I never thought about someone going through the effort to steal timber.

Its probably easy to get buy with and my guess is law enforcement wouldn't pursue it too hard, I would think it would be one of those situations where it would be hard to find out who stole the timber unless you caught them in the act. There are also those that would consider this a victemless crime.

I was trying to get me up a good haul "Tool $". A@#$ came right up to the back door of my shop. Couldn't prove it but I let the guy know if there was a next time.
