I spent some time at my parents house this weekend and it seems that they have a Cedar Tree that the contractors from Duke Power decided to cut down (I guess they get paid by the tree!) on the back of their property. It had a fairly large trunk, and it's been sitting out exposed for a while, so it's got some heavy checking showing on the ends.

It might still be good for turning pens some something similar.

I've included links to some pictures I took tonight of the tree.

If anyone is interested in the large logs (parents intent is to burn the smaller logs in camp fires), please let me know. The trunk was sectioned by the same crew that cut the tree down. Image018 gives a good view of the lower end of the trunk, and the checking.

I can be reached at Tim[dot]Rice[at]Duke[dot]edu.
