Another odd job for the mill. This method of sawing is great for coffee tables, but it is rather hard on the clutch sawing diagonal to the grain of the log.

That looks mighty sweet!

Got any pictures of the finished product?

Re: Diagonal Milling

Hey ptt49er So far that is the finished product. They are 24"W X 8/4 T X 4'L I don't think it's gonna pan out to sporty though. The slab I was after is already cracking from the center out. Very small cracks, but there still fresh off the log. Any ways, sometimes,... the right crack makes the table.

Re: Diagonal Milling

Definitely some unique slicing but as you confirmed cracking from the pith is inevitable although the "rustic " look is prized by some.

Re: Diagonal Milling

You could always fill the cracks with epoxy and then run it through a wide belt sander.

1 word... Nakashima!

It's probably nothing a couple butterflies wouldn't fix... or 50-gallons of Epoxy.

Good luck

John

Bury it in sawdust/shavings and let 'er dry for about 6 to 8 months. See whatcha got. Sometimes good, sometimes firewood.
