Is curly maple hard maple, soft maple, or can it be either?

You will find normal curly Maple more often in soft Maple around here. Combine that with the fact that there is very little hard Maple growing around these parts. Quilted Maple is almost aways hard Maple, and curly hard Maple is going to have more intense figure than found in soft.
But yes it is found in both.
