OK this is not especially fine woodworking related, but I'm going to be putting up a sunroof to cover my deck here pretty soon. Looking to use treated lumber, and will be needing the usual (6x6, 2x10, 2x6, 2x2, etc).

Knee jerk reaction is to pick up a 10% off coupon and go to Lowes. Should I check anywhere else for a better deal? I'm located in Raleigh...

We used to use a lot of treated lumber. Most of the stuff at Lowe's is #2 and is pretty crappy.

If you can find a local supplier of #1 lumber, you'll have a lot less waste and get a better job, I believe. There's a lot of guys on here who build a lot of decks, so they're probably better qualified to answer.

Hmm, good point. I know Cap City probably carries higher grade, but their prices are somethin' else.

Hi Eric,

You may want to give these guys a call....

http://www.tarheelwoodtreating.com/

They are located on Hwy 54, pretty close to 'downtown' Morrisville. I am not sure what their prices are like these days, but I do know that they have sold a quality product in the past.

I would agree with Wayne's advice for Tar Heel Wood Treating, also there is Brooks Bros. Lumber off Atlantic Ave. right at Highwoods. They are a great source if you want to get it KDAT and #1 grade (which I highly recommend).
I have also had good luck with pricing from 84 Lumber, nothing exotic or special, but just plain ole PT Pine #2, they will beat Lowe's any day

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.
