Oh yeah, I am quite familiar with BORG softwood. A few days back I got a nice QS clear spruce 1x7 suitable for making tops for string instruments that was set to the side of the 1x10 pile because one edge (where the center rings were) was full of cracks. There was a supervisor nearby when I checked out and he offered me a discount since it was in such bad shape.
I have a few holly boards laying around in the shop I think they are 5/4 thick.

I have enough to last me a while. Somebody was trying to give some away at lunch. I was trying to give away a couple of chunks of maple and didn't have any takers.

I got some of the Holly that Sapwood generously offered out. It looks like an elephant leg sitting i the back of my truck.
Andy you must have not tried hard enough to give that Maple away, I didn't even know it was being offered up...I would have taken some.
Nick we might be able to work something out with this Holly I got from Roger, but it's still green and in log form and I doubt you want that for a segmented bowl.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Well you are welcome to the two chunks of maple. It looks like it may have figure, but I am not sure. I got it from someone who siad they had some maple logs thinking I would try resawing a bit but the logs were short. The tree was not all that large. I got the bottom most trunk piece which is a bit over 1' in diameter and length and the piece above it which is about 18" long and a little skinnier. Not massive bowl blanks, but there may a few small to medium blanks in there. I live in Cary and work near North Hills. Do you pass through either area during the day?

All the time, I am a Landscape Designer, and I have yet to find the client who can bring their yard to me
I put 100,000 miles on my work truck in the last 3 years, just within the Triangle area

I don't know Nick, it's only around 12-14" in diameter and 20" long...might not be big enough for much

Re: Amount of wood in a log

Well if y'all got the holly situation figured out, I'll just continue to let the few dry boards I have, hang around the shop a little bit longer and collect some more dust

Re: Amount of wood in a log

Nick I plan to saw it up this weekend, I bet there will be a few good sized blanks in there. I'll probably turn a few and set a few aside. I might have a few for you at the picnic
