Randy,

Thats the wood biz.. I wouldn't sweat it. I get low-ball or request for free wood constantly.

The wood industry slowed a bit in December and January, but demand for walnut, cherry is still strong. China has been buying up all they can get. Red Oak demand is flat and there is a lot of it out there. That doesn't mean you can't get a good price for it just have to be patient. Another alternative is to dry it, straight line it and have it molded into flooring. Abernethy's does that in Charlotte.

I know I have thought about throwing in the towel a time or two but I just grit my teeth and move along.

Hello everybody, I would like to Thank you all for all your kind words and incouragement. My real job called me away after my last post thus the reason for the delay in my reply, sorry. I am thankfull that I have people like you ALL, that will incourage and help me in times like this. I did not burn the lumber, but I was sure ready too. I am rethinking this whole sawmill deal and I can see, that the "nice guy" will get run over in this biz. I will keep running the mill and making lumber, But I will be FIRM on my prices and if they want the lumber they will pay my price or they will go elsewhere. Elsewhere is fine with me as well, my prices are FAIR and I will NOT go down any further.
I think this was mentioned in one of the replys to my post, that Craigslist will bring out every tight wad within a 100 mile radius and they dont mind if they insult you or not. My mill don't run on air, so if they want it, they'll pay for it. I will never try to sell lumber on Craigslist again. My phone rings all the time with someone trying to beat me down, I'll be glad when the adds expire in 45 days. Craigslist is great if your looking to barter, but people seem to think everything is up for barter there. Anyway, Thanks to you all, for all your incouraging words. I missed tons of phone calls as well because when I left for work I left without my phone. Sorry, I know some of you here called as well. I lost all my messages and cant return your calls so please call again if you like.

Thanks Again Randy

That's great news Randy. Let us know (here or on your website) when you have some wood to sell as I for one will be interested!

Randy, You can cancel that add in craigslist. Go to the e-mail that craigslist sent confirming the posting and follow the directions to delete.

Now, if anyone over by Randy is coming anywhere near Lillington and would like to transport some cedar, I could use some.

I need some 2X4 and 2X6 SYP for a wood storage extension I'm adding onto the side of my shed and can pick up a load if anyone needs what Randy has for sale. PM me and we can work out the details.

PHP Code:
I have been using mcewen lumber in High Point.
I can get 4/4 red oak s3s clear for 2.04 a bdft and got walnut s3s for $4 a bdft.
But you have to buy a minimum of $400.
Randy, you might want to think about something like this for your selling policy. Many people will probably come & buy a couple hundred hundred dollars' worth & it eliminates the time you spend with someone who only needs a few boards & it streamlines your operation. With that 'new' forklift you could offer fast loading on a pick up order.

Randy,

Sorry to hear about the craigslist fiasco. The LOML put an ad on there for adirondack chairs (that I would custom build) and I got plenty of calls. But I ended up turning EVERY offer down because I would've effectively broken even. Craigslist is a great place if you NEED to get rid of something for cheap or are looking for something for cheap, but not the place to go for everyday business.

I have family and friends in Matthews and I would be happy to refer them to you. Hang in there, you'll be fine. Best of luck to you.

Trent

I talked to one of the guys that work there, They had to do that to keep people from coming in and buying a few board feet at a time.

That are a supplier to a lot of companies, they also supply internet lumber with some of their lumber. thats what i was told by an employee.

Randy, You may want to set up a price list on your site like The Hardwood Store of North Carolina and stick to it.

I have a price list on my website for things i make and sell. I get people wanting to give a lower price, but tell them nope, Then they will pay.
I don't list a phone number just an email so i can answer when i have the spare time.

Hi jaustin, I have done exactly that. I went to The Hardwood Store of North Carolina copyied thier price list, made one just like it and laminated it. It now hangs on the front corner post of the mill building. I do saw for less than that because thats, for dry lumber. But this way people feel like there getting a fair price, I think. I know they are in my book
